Fort Meade Update

Module 1 of the Library's High Density Storage Facility at Fort Meade, Maryland, opened on November 18, 2002. Module 2 opened in November 2005. Total number (approximate) of volumes transferred: 2.7 million. Collections materials are being transferred from Capitol Hill to that facility at an average of 3,000 volumes per working day.

The following blocks of materials have been relocated into module 1: PZ3 - end of PZ and MLC. Select items from CALM, the Law Library, Asian Division, African & Middle East Division, Music Division and Humanities and Social Sciences Division have been relocated. Select serials which are available in electronic form have also been relocated. In addition, additional copies of items from various subclasses within the General Collections are being sent to Fort Meade. In these instances, one copy will be retained on the Hill and any additional copies will be relocated to Fort Meade.
