Information for Researchers - Using the Library of Congress

Doctoral Dissertations

Bibliographic citations for many unpublished American doctoral dissertations may be found in the multi-volume publication, Dissertation Abstracts International. This information is also searchable in the FirstSearch online system, available in the Library's reading rooms. Dissertation citations may also be searched online in ProQuest Digital Dissertations, an online subscription service available at the Library of Congress and many other research libraries. This service provides the full text of many dissertations written after 1997. Most of the dissertations listed in these sources are available in the Microform Reading Room. Dissertations that have also been published as books are listed in the card catalog and/or the online catalog. If a publication is not found in the catalogs, consult a reference librarian.
