Conduct on Library Premises

All persons using the buildings and grounds of the Library are required to conduct themselves in a manner that will not detrimentally affect the peace, quiet, and good order of the Library. Persons using the Library must comply with official signs of a restrictive or directory nature, with the orders of the Library Police or the supervisor of the area, and with all Library of Congress regulations. A copy of LCR 1812, "Conduct on Library Premises," is available upon request in the Main Reading Room.

The theft, defacement, mutilation, misuse, or destruction of Library property is prohibited by federal statutes (which provide for fines or imprisonment, or both) and by Library regulations, LCR 610 and LCR 1815.

The Library of Congress is a closed stack library. The Library does not allow public access to the stacks for any purpose.

No library materials may be removed from any of the Library's reading rooms (LCR 610).
