Organization Description:
The Alliance for Families & Communities Affected by Incarceration (AFCAI) is located in St. Louis, Missouri. AFCAI offers referrals, educational workshops, information, and assistance to offenders, ex-offenders, and families of offenders and ex-offenders. Since 2001, it has been educating and empowering families and communities affected by incarceration.

Project Description:
AFCAI will use CCF funds to build capacity in providing healthy-marriage education. It will, among other activities, hire an executive director; develop a board of directors; provide training for the board, staff, and volunteers; and form partnerships with area social service agencies

Organization Description:
Amor de Orange County, established in 2002, is a community-based organization in southern California, providing marriage education services. It especially targets Latinos, who make up about a third of the area's total population.

Project Description:
With its CCF Targeted Capacity Building grant, Amor de Orange County will increase its capacity to provide marriage education services by training volunteers to lead courses in Spanish. Amor will also create a best practices manual that will be used in training new leaders, as well as develop a marketing strategy plan.

Organization Description:
Better Life Counseling Center (BLCC), located in Jonesboro, Arkansas, provides marriage and family therapy to clients in nearly 20 counties in Arkansas and Missouri. BLCC has completed more than 12,000 sessions of marriage and family therapy since it was founded in 1996.

Project Description:
BLCC aims to increase its capacity to offer marriage education and preparation to couples, especially those with limited financial access to these services, in six counties where the organization has had a limited presence. To do this, BLCC will enhance its community engagement in these counties; update its information technology and financial management systems; and expand its efforts in revenue development.

Organization Description:
Boat People SOS (BPSOS) is a national community-based organization headquartered in Virginia with 14 branch offices nationwide. The BPSOS mission is to assist Vietnamese refugees and immigrants in their search for a life in liberty and dignity by empowering, organizing, and equipping individuals and communities in their progress toward financial self-sufficiency and social integration.

Project Description:
BPSOS has already implemented healthy family and marriage enrichment cirricula and activites in four other locations around the nation. This project lays the foundation for bringing these activities to the Northern Virginia branch office. BPSOS will use CCF funds to: provide training for staff and volunteers to become certified trainers; develop a coalition of community and media organizations; and develop and publish healthy marriage public service announcements in Vietnamese.

Organization Description:
Care Net Pregnancy Center of the Tanana Valley (CPCTV) provides pregnancy services, family support, information, and referrals in the North Star Borough of Fairbanks, Alaska. CPCTV services include "Safe Rider," which conducts safety checks of infant car seats, as well as life-skills programs, with an emphasis on relationship and parenting.

Project Description:
CPCTV will train its board members in strategic planning and roles and responsibilities. An accountant will help develop and improve financial management systems, and CPCTV will undergo a complete audit. The organization will also purchase supplies, including computers, printer, projector, and projection screen.

Organization Description:
The Resource Room was founded in 2001 to improve academic performance, job opportunities, and quality of life for Hispanic, African-, Haitian-, and Caribbean-American children and adults in Carol City, Florida. It provides after-school tutoring, SAT prep courses, parenting workshops, and adult-education classes, among other services.

Project Description:
To develop capacity for new healthy-marriage programs, The Resource Room will use CCF funds to evaluate curricula, build collaborations to faciliate volunteer recruitment, and train volunteers in the curriculum. In addition, it will develop volunteer maintenance and retention strategies.

Organization Description:
Established in 1983, Christian Counseling Centers (CCC) is a nondenominational, faith-based nonprofit organization located in 12 centers throughout the San Francisco Bay Area in California. CCC services focus on marriage education and preparation services.

Project Description:
CCC will use CCF Funds to leverage the organization's coalition partnership with faith-based and community organiations (FCBOs) in a coordinated effort to reach the most distressed communities with a "saturation model" of accessible, effective programs for couples struggling with the stress of poverty, unemployment, and inner city social problems. CCC's capacity building activities include: staff professional and career development; volunteer development; design and production of program brochures; purchase of computer, projector, and related technology equipment; recruitment of faith-based organizations as partners; and design of donor development strategy.

COPAHNI currently provides three services: The Institute for Pastoral Excellence; The Marriage Counseling Service; and Conferences and other educational events.

Project Description:
COPAHNI will increase its capacity in organizational and leadership development and will provide training for volunteers and staff on marriage counseling, evaluation and outcome measurement, and grant writing. The organization will develop culturally sensitive marriage-counseling curricula and purchase training equipment and standardized nondenominational marriage assessment inventories. The board will also complete a series of workshops on board composition and governance.

Organization Description:
Downriver Marriage Resource Center (MRC) was organized in 2004 to address the need for marriage-friendly resources in Wayne County, Michigan. The goal of the organization is to strengthen families and communities by strengthening marriages for couples who choose marriage for themselves.

Project Description:
MRC will hire a volunteer coordinator and train staff on volunteer development. A CPA firm specializing in nonprofits will perform a financial audit. MRC will also conduct a community assessment to identify ways it can support residents in forming and sustaining healthy marriages.

Organization Description:
Eleventh Hour Evangelistic Association (EHEA) is a faith-based charity targeting the African-American/Black community of Alameda & Contra Costa counties. EHEA focuses on educating and mentoring youth and young adults and deterring them from at-risk behavior. EHEA services focus on at-risk youth and gang influence and involvement.

Project Description:
EHEA will provide training for its board of directors on organizational development, capacity building, economic development, governance, and performance management. The director will write policies and procedures for paid and volunteer staff on delivering marriage education services. The organization will purchase marriage education cirricula and produce a video presentation to enhance written materials. Finally, EHEA will work with a consultant to create a donor development strategy and train key staff on grant writing.

Project Description:
FSC will work to expand its services to Korean-American youth and adults in several southern California cities. FSC's Targeted Capacity Building Program will focus on raising public awareness and building partnerships, developing culturally appropriate curricula, and taking steps to increase its fundraising capabilities by training staff in grant writing.

Fresno County Healthy Marriage Coalition (FCHMC) is a secular organization serving the Latino population of Fresno County, California. FCHMC services focus on marriage education and preparation.

Project Description:
FCHMC will train volunteers in marriage education and provide mentoring curricula. It will develop a communications strategy, including informational fliers and Web site upgrades, to provide more information to potential clients and increase awareness about available programs. Through meetings with key leaders in the business, service, and health communities, FCHMC will increase membership in the coalition. Finally, key staff members will complete training in financial management software and will begin producing quarterly budget reports.

Hope Chapel San Pedro will use CCF funding to file for 501(c)(3) status; grant-writing training and coaching and a leadership board seminar; Web site design; marriage counseling training for staff counselors; conferences for professional development; and software to support fiscal management and grant writing.

With CCF funding, IDEALS will expand its capacity to serve low-income couples in four cities: Oakland and Los Angeles, California; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Camden, New Jersey. IDEALS will educate new trainers to reach target communities, translate its leaders' guide into Spanish, and update its fiscal controls.

Married 4 Keeps (M4K), founded in 2005 as a Community Marriage Resource Center, was incorporated in 2006. M4K has formed a coalition of 34 churches from which pastors and leaders were trained to present marriage education courses.

Project Description:
With Targeted Capacity Building funds, M4K plans to expand its services in distressed cities in California's Orange and Los Angeles counties, by training pastors and leaders of congregations in these areas to teach marriage education classes. M4K will also build its own capacity by sending key staff to specialized, advanced trainings and by establishing a comprehensive fund development plan.

Organization Description:
The mission of Missouri Bootheel Regional Consortium (MBRC) is to strengthen, promote, and empower families and communities through quality, focused programs to a five-county service region in the Missouri Bootheel. MBRC serves the 2,500-square-mile, five-county rural area of Scott, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, and Dunklin counties in the southeast corner of Missouri, nicknamed "the Bootheel" because of its shape.

In addition to the Fatherhood First and Healthy Marriage education programs, MBRC is actively implementing initiatives for improving the quality of life for children, mothers, fathers, and families in the rural Bootheel region for over 10 years.

Project Description:
MBRC will use CCF funds to strengthen its Fatherhood First Advisory Board through leadership development training for board members; develop an effective marriage education program curriculum that includes performance measures for evaluation of program outcomes; and purchase computers to outfit its new on-site education center, which allows participants to access trainings in job readiness and financial management.

San Diego North County Latino Marriage & Family Resource Center (SDNCLM&FRC), established in 2006, is a member of the California Healthy Marriage Coalition (CHMC). It focuses on providing marriage education and preparation services in San Diego County, California. CMHC's goal is to provide access to premarital and marriage education, enabling Hispanic couples to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to form and sustain healthy marriages.

Project Description:
With CCF funds, SDNCLM&FRC will implement numerous activities, including: creating a policies and procedures manual; purchasing two desktop computers; conducting community asset mapping; creating a Web site; establishing collaborative relationships and partnerships; developing grant-writing skills; purchasing donor tracking software; and designing a donor development strategy.

Organization Description:
Wings Ministry serves families in the South Valley of Albuquerque, New Mexico, whose lives have been affected by arrest, conviction, and incarceration. The Ministry provides seminars in life skills, marriage education, domestic violence, and other services in six adult and six juvenile correctional facilities in New Mexico. The Ministry has provided programs in community settings and adult and juvenile facilities for 11 years.

Project Description:
Wings Ministry will complete a comprehensive, external audit and update client, referral, volunteer, and donor databases. Staff will be trained on how to use the databases. The Ministry will hire a community educator who will recruit 12 new families to participate in life-skill training and mentoring programs. The community educator will also produce outreach materials, including a brochure and monthly publications to target couples who are attempting to establish, maintain, or strengthen a marriage in the face of incarceration of a family member.
