General Resources: Peru

Created and maintained by the
Hispanic Division
Collections and Services Directorate

This pathfinder contains basic information about Peru and a listing of general country websites.

The most important source for bibliography of books and articles concerning Peru is the annual Handbook of Latin American Studies (http://lcweb2.loc.gov/hlas/) produced by over 160 contributing editors under the editorship of the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress. Additional coverage of journal articles can be found through a subscription to the Hispanic American Periodical Index (http://hapi.gseis.ucla.edu/). Both the Handbook and HAPI are available in selected libraries in book form.

One of the major aggregators for links to a wide variety of subjects relating to Peru is the University of Texas' LANIC (http://www.lanic.utexas.edu/la/peru/). Another site one should especially note is the site prepared by the Law Library of the Library of Congress for legal, political, and general information on their Guide to Law Online (http://www.loc.gov/law/guide/peru.html).

Acceso also publishes daily local and international news, a gallery of MP3s, and post cards. The only problem about this site is some of the links are "dead", however this problem is not as serious as other local directories. In Spanish.

Adónde? Todas las Páginas del Perú: Buscador Peruano (http://www.adonde.com/)
Originally known as "Todas Las Páginas del Peru´", or All The Sites From Peru, Adónde? was one of the first directories that appeared on the Web. Its author, Eduardo Dávila Andrade, was motivated to create this site when he was in Manaus, Brazil. At that time he was trying to figure out a way to maintain contact with all his fellow Peruvians. Although some of this site's links need to be updated and their pop-up windows are particularly annoying, Adónde? was and will be one of the most complete directories of Peru. Its local news section is also an excellent resource of Peruvian current events and is usually kept fairly updated. In Spanish.
