The Getty Center, an art museum and research institute near Los Angeles, provides information for approximately one million places world-wide, with an emphasis on places important for art and architecture. Search on Sweden.

NGA GEOnet Names Server (http://earth-info.nga.mil/gns/html/)
A sophisticated database including over 5 million place names world-wide. Maintained by two U.S. agencies - the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, NGA GEOnet is the official repository of standard spellings of all foreign place names, sanctioned by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names. A pull-down menu allows searching by country. Records give the name of each location or feature, variant spellings, latitude and longitude, and additional numeric data. Searches may focus on a variety of elements, such as populated place, administrative region, type of area, vegetation, and fresh- and saltwater features. Searches may also be limited to areas demarcated by two lines each of latitude and longitude.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries is responsible for a wide range of issues, including the Sami people, the environment, and reindeer husbandry. Swedish University makes available its library catalog (LUKAS) and a database of dissertations since 1997 as well as information about SLU, education, research environment, news and cooperation. In Swedish and English.

Search NAL databases by subject for information on natural resources and environment, animals and livestock, plants and crops, and more. Includes links to NAL catalog (AGRICOLA) and collections, information centers, and information about NAL.

Sveriges Geologiska Undersökning (SGU) (http://www.sgu.se/sgu/eng/index.html)
The Geological Survey of Sweden provides access to several specialized databases on geology, mineralogy, hydrology, and other subjects. Links to information about SGU, services, mapping, natural resources, geology, research and development, environmental work, and more. The Georegister is a reference database that gives information on the location and availability of Swedish geological documents. The database can only be searched in Swedish, but some titles and abstracts are in English. In Swedish and English.

UN/ECE Timber Database (http://www.unece.org/trade/timber/mis/fp-stats.htm)
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe provides statistics on forests and forest industries in all European countries.

USGS Minerals Information - Europe and Central Asia (http://minerals.usgs.gov/minerals/pubs/country/europe.html)
The United States Geological Survey provides lengthy annual reports on the mineral resources of most countries throughout the world. The annual reports for many countries are archived beginning in the mid 1990s. Click on Sweden for reports on the Mineral Industry of Sweden as well as related links.
