Children's Bureau
Child and Family Services Reviews
Consultant Recruitment

The Children's Bureau is seeking to build a diverse, national pool of consultant reviewers to participate in the Child and Family Services Reviews (onsite reviews of State child welfare agencies). Selected consultants will serve as members of teams of reviewers comprising Federal and State agency staff.

Each review lasts 1 week, however, consultant reviewers are required to remain onsite for the first 4 days of the review. Reviewers participate in document reviews; interviews with caseworkers, service providers, and children and families engaged in child welfare services; daily debriefings; and local entrance and exit conferences. Reviewers receive an honorarium of $350 per day for the time spent on site (4 days) and a $150 honorarium for the time spent preparing to participate in a review. The Children's Bureau also pays for consultant travel and per diem associated with the reviews.

Upon receipt of applications, information on consultant candidates' qualifications will be maintained by the Child Welfare Reviews Project and made available to the Children's Bureau Regional Office staff who select candidates to participate in the Consultant Reviewer Trainings. Once trained, candidates become eligible for selection by Children's Bureau Regional Office staff to participate as a consultant reviewer in a review.

The Children's Bureau, with the support of the Child Welfare Reviews Project, conducts 1½-day Consultant Reviewer Trainings periodically throughout the year. Consultants receive a $150 honorarium for participating in the training (travel and per diem also is covered). If you are interested in serving as a consultant reviewer, please review the minimum qualifications. If you are qualified to participate, please submit a completed consultant reviewer package to the Child Welfare Reviews Project.
