SCOPE

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) or Internet telephony is one example of the tremendous growth of the Internet and its applications. VoIP is a technology that allows a person to make telephone calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) telephone line. Some services using VoIP may only allow you to call other people using the same service, but others allow you to call anyone who has a telephone number - including local, long distance, mobile, and international numbers. Also, while some services only work using your computer or a special VoIP phone, other services allow you to use a traditional phone through an adaptor.

This guide is intended for those who wish to investigate VoIP technology. It offers a broad view of the topic, and includes such topics as security, VoIP network administration, standards and research. Not meant to be a comprehensive bibliography, this compilation is designed--as the name of the series implies--to put the reader “on target.”
