The Office of Academic Services regularly hosts special events and tours, sometimes posting a photo gallery from the event.

Alternative Spring Break Program '07: Includes photos of the students participating plus photo gallery from tours offered: the birds collection, meteorite room, and paleobotany collections.

Alternative Spring Break Program '06:

University of Michigan '06 Alternative Spring Break Program: For one week, 27 Feb 06 to 3 Mar 06, the National Museum of Natural History hosted two students from the University of Michigan, School of information, as part of the Alternative Spring Break Program. Students selected projects and advisors from a list of about 20 options.

Millersville Biology Club '06 Tour: Friday, 24 February 2006. Organized by former RTP intern Chris Hardy now Assistant Professor & Keeper of the Herbarium (Millersville University, Millersville Pennsylvania) we hosted 10 members from the Millersville University Biology Club for several hours of behind-the-scenes tours featuring Paleobiology, Birds, and Botany.

Fellows '05 Tour of the Meteorite Vault: Thursday, 14 July 2005.

Fellows '05 Tour of the Mummy Vault: Thursday, 23 June 2005.

Fellows '05 Tour of the Burgess Shale & Springer Echinoderm Collections: Wednesday, 25 May 2005.

Hood Tri Beta '04 Tour: Friday, 3 December 2004. Organized by Jim Schultes, we hosted 5 members from the Hood College Tri Beta Biology Club for several hours of behind-the-scenes tours featuring Amphibians & Reptiles, Mammals, and Paleobiology.

ESA '03 Tour: On Friday, 7 November 2003, the RTP hosted the Ecological Society of America "SEEDS" 2003 Urban Ecology Student Field Trip - "Strategies for Ecology Education, Development and Sustainability." A total of 25 students joined 8 professionals from a variety of agencies for a panel discussion followed by a behind-the-scenes tour of Smithsonian's Natural History Collections.

JKC '03 Tour: Monday, 4 August 2003. We hosted 50 high school students - Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Young Scholars - for several hours of behind-the-scenes tours featuring our research and collections.
