World Health Day
Every year, over five million children under 14 years of age die from illnesses that can easily be prevented or treated. In recognition of this global problem, this year’s World Health Day is dedicated to the theme “Healthy Environments for Children.” Events worldwide will focus attention on the importance of protecting children’s health from environmental threats such as lack of clean water and sanitation, degraded air quality and chemical pollution. The Pan American Health Organization, in collaboration with the CEC and others, has organized a workshop on children’s environmental health on 10–12 April 2003, in Lima, Peru.
