Polish Declarations of Admiration and Friendship for the United States: Inventory of Place Names for Volumes 14-110

Polish Declarations of Admiration and Friendship for the United States is a collection of 111 manuscript volumes compiled in Poland in 1926 and delivered to President Calvin Coolidge at the White House to honor the 150th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Richly illustrated with original works by prominent Polish graphic artists, volumes one through six include the greetings and signatures of national, provincial, and local government officials and representatives of religious, social, business, academic, and military institutions. Volumes seven through thirteen present the signatures and a small number of photographs of students and faculty of secondary schools, as well as some elementary schools. Volumes one through thirteen have been digitized and are now accessible at http://international.loc.gov/intldl/pldechtml/.

Digitization of the 96 elementary school volumes, totaling some 28,000 pages, was not undertaken at this time because of staffing and budgetary considerations. The present site is a complete inventory of all the place names in Volumes 14-110. The index is arranged alphabetically by the names of the cities, towns, or villages in which elementary schools were located. Also provided are the names of the administrative districts (powiaty) and volume and page numbers. The index indicates which schools are accompanied with photographs; about one percent of the entries have photographs. Eventually it may be possible to digitize volumes 14-110. Until then, researchers can consult the originals in the Manuscript Reading Room. Since the volumes are held in remote storage, researchers should submit requests at least two days in advance of their visit to the Manuscript Reading Room.
