Strategic Priority # 1: New Services and Training
Initiative: New PCU Governance Model page 2
FY 2001 Key Initiative: New PCU Governance Model page 2
Resources: It is not anticipated that any dollars will be needed for this project in 2001.
The majority of the investment will be in employee time for planning the new model.
Timeline: By the end of 2001:
(1) a governance model will be defined and roles delineated
(2) a pilot operationalizing the new governance model will be implemented
on one or two patient care units
(3) a process will be developed that facilitates patient placement across
multi-institute units.
Outcomes: Multi-Institute collaborative model (“partners”) implemented to assure all patient care,
research, and operational support requirements are met through achievement of the following process outcomes:
• Planning and budgeting process will be directly linked to patient care unit programs (e.g., improves accuracy of planning).
• More efficient use of patient care capacity as PCU teams oversee both inpatient
and outpatient settings (including day hospital), creating the ability to share
staffing and other resources.
• Development of management data available at unit level will allow for better fiscal accountability (e.g., staffing levels against patient census).
• Benchmarking across patient care units will be easily accomplished.
• Expanded role for CC nurse managers.
• Upgrade of responsibilities and scope of job for support staff.
