U.S. AND U.K. TO NEGOTIATE NEW INCOME TAX TREATY

The United States and the United Kingdom have scheduled negotiations of anew income tax treaty in Washington in January, 1999. A new treaty would replace the treatycurrently in force between the two countries, which has been in effect since 1975. The twoGovernments have decided that the current treaty needs to be modernized to take account ofdevelopments in both countries' tax systems and policies since then. The Treasury Department invites comments from the public regarding the upcomingnegotiations. Persons wishing to comment on the proposed treaty are invited to send theirwritten comments to Joseph H.
