Description: Demographic statistics collected by the United States Department of Commerce. Includes data from: the Historica Decennial Census of Population and Housing containing economic and social demographics on the US population and the nation's housing; the American Community Survey (ACS) provides annual detailed demographic data on local US communities; the Economic Census - quinquennial surveys providing aggregate data on the number of establishments, employees, and payroll for businesses and industries in the manufacturing, mineral, construction, transportation, and distributive trades; current foreign trade reports providing statistics on U.S. imports, exports, and shipping; and selected data on the U.S. Foreign-Born Population.

The American Factfinder , allows users to search quickly for the latest housing, economic and demographic data. Search results come from the following sources (Factfinder descriptions and links):

  • American Community Survey - Collects information from U.S. households similar to what was collected on the Census 2000 long form, such as income, commute time to work, home value, veteran status, and other important data, to provide communities a look at how they are changing.
  • Business and Government - Contains Industry Statistics and Foreign Trade figures, Census of Federal, State, and Local Governments, State and Local Governments Finance and Employment data, and Federal Expenditures.
  • Decennial Census of Population and Housing - Covers most geographic areas, e.g., metropolitan area, state, county, city/town, place, ZIP Code, down to census tract for most data, and down to block or block group for some data. Contains data on population, race, ancestry, income, disability, education, employment, language, marital status, occupation, poverty status, housing characteristics and more.
  • Economic Census - Covers U.S., metropolitan area, state, county, place, ZIP Code for Industry, establishments, sales, receipts, revenues, shipments, expenses, products, payroll, employees and more
  • Maps and Geography - Covers: Reference Maps , which allows users to view the boundaries of census geographies, such as counties, cities and towns, urban areas, congressional districts, census tracts, census blocks, and more; and Thematic Maps , designed to view geographic patterns in census data.
  • People - Includes data for: Basic Counts / Population; Aging; Disability; Education; Gender; Income and Employment; Origins and Language; Poverty; Race and Ethnicity; Household Relationships; Transportation; and Veterans.
  • Population Estimates Program - Covers State, metropolitan area, county , city and town providing estimated total population for the previous year for geographic areas above; estimates by age, sex, and race/ethnicity are available for selected geographic areas.
