  • Time information occurs in the CMG InfoBank as:

    • "Date/Time" at the start of each record for correlation with other datasets.
        Standard format is "YYYYDDDHHMMSST" where...
            YYYY = year (e.g., 1998 or 2001)
             DDD = day of year (e.g., 007 = January 7th,
                    365 = December 31 [non-leap year])
              HH = hour of day in 24hr time
                    (e.g., 02 = 2am, 15 = 3pm)
              MM = minutes
              SS = seconds
               T = tenths of second

    • "Dates" for Formal Metadata.
        Standard format is "YYYYMMDD" where...
            YYYY = year (e.g., 1998 or 2001)
              MM = month number (e.g., 01 = January)
              DD = day of month

    • "Dates/Times" for Formal Metadata.
        Standard format is "YYYYMMDDHHMMSSSSZ" where...
            YYYY = year (e.g., 1998 or 2001)
              MM = month number (e.g., 01 = January)
              DD = day of month
              HH = hour of day in 24hr time
                    (e.g., 02 = 2am, 15 = 3pm)
              MM = minutes
            SSSS = hundreths of seconds
                    (seconds to two decimal places - without the decimal)
               Z = Zulu time
                    (aka Universal Time, Greenwich Mean Time)

  • All values are zero filled (see examples above).
  • Times are Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) unless specifically stated otherwise.
  • How do UTM, GMT, Zulu, and local times relate...
