First-Person Narratives of the American South, 1860-1920
contains accounts of the American South drawn from diaries, autobiographies,
memoirs, travel accounts, and ex-slave narratives. The collection
contains stories of prominent individuals as well as everyday people
including women, African Americans, enlisted men, laborers, and
Native Americans. The collection was compiled from printed texts
from the libraries at the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill.
