Volunteer Program Manager Assistant -  This volunteer is needed year round. Volunteer would assist the Volunteer Manager with volunteer recruitment, volunteer evaluations, time keeping, ordering supplies, filing, database update for mailings and emailing, and other duties as needed. Orange Blossom Recreation Area – Volunteers are needed for three month terms between the months of September 30, 2008 – October 1, 2009. Volunteers ensure that the park entrance gate opens in the morning and is secured at sunset. They conduct periodic walkthroughs of the park, greet the public and answer questions. Volunteer park hosts do not enforce regulations; however, they are expected to be additional eyes and ears of the park rangers. Park hosts may be needed to assist during emergencies. Hosts are not required to do maintenance or janitorial functions, however litter pickup, when needed, is expected. Hosts days off are either Monday – Tuesday or Tuesday – Wednesday. Orange Blossom Recreation Area is a well known takeout point for river rafters, and authorized for day use only. No overnight camping is available for visitors. Orange Blossom Recreation Area has high visitation during the months of June through August, and   park hosts will be required to operate a no fee entrance booth for a five hour shift on Saturdays and Sundays. The fall and winter seasons see moderate to low visitation. In exchange for volunteer services hosts will be provided with, an RV site, electricity, water, and sewage at no charge. The host is required to maintain a telephone at their own expense. The park address is 17248 Rodden Road, Oakdale, CA, 95361.

McHenry Avenue Recreation Area - Volunteers are needed for three month terms between the months of September 30, 2008 – October 1, 2009 for two separate host sites. Volunteer park hosts ensure that the park entrance gate opens in the morning and is secured at sunset. They conduct periodic walkthroughs of the park, greet the public and answer questions. Park hosts do not enforce regulations; however, they are expected to be additional eyes and ears of the park rangers. Park hosts may be needed to assist during emergencies. Hosts are not required to do maintenance or janitorial functions, however litter pickup, when needed, is expected. Hosts days off are either Monday – Tuesday or Tuesday – Wednesday. During the summer months McHenry Avenue Recreation Area is a popular day use spot with nine boat-in environmental tent camping sites. The recreation season, Memorial Day through Labor Day, can require park hosts to work one five hour shift per weekend in the parks entrance booth. Reservations and fees for camping are collected 14 days in advance by our Field Office Assistant at the Knights Ferry Information Center. (In the last 3 years the campground has not reached full capacity, so the host duties are primarily park host not camp host.) In exchange for volunteer services hosts will be provided with, an RV site, electricity, water, and sewage at no charge. The host is required to maintain a telephone at their own expense. Knights Ferry Recreation Area - Volunteers are needed for three month terms between the months of September 30, 2008 – October 1, 2009. Volunteer park hosts ensure that the parks two entrance gates are open in the morning and secured at sunset. They conduct periodic walkthroughs of the park, greet the public and answer questions. Park hosts are needed to staff the sites Information Center on Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Park hosts do not enforce regulations; however, they are expected to be additional eyes and ears of the park rangers. Park hosts may be needed to assist during emergencies. Hosts are not required to do maintenance or janitorial functions, however litter pickup, when needed, is expected. Hosts days off are either Monday – Tuesday or Tuesday – Wednesday. The Knights Ferry Recreation Area is a popular put-in spot for river rafters, and authorized for day use only. No overnight camping is available for visitors. The community of Knights Ferry is rich in history, and the host site is in view of the longest covered bridge west of the Mississippi River. The bridge is open to foot traffic only. In exchange for volunteer services hosts will be provided with, an RV site, electricity, water, and sewage at no charge. Docent, Knights Ferry Recreation Area – The Knights Ferry Recreation Area is the centerpiece of the Stanislaus River Parks system. It is the most popular of the 9 developed recreation areas. Rich in history, the Knights Ferry area is on the National Historic Registry. Docents assist park rangers giving interpretive programs about the Grist (flour) Mill, Mill Office, and the longest covered bridge west of the Mississippi River, the Knights Ferry Covered Bridge. Knights Ferry’s history tells tales of the 49er era, Native American history, natural history, and pivotal assistance in the development of Stanislaus County. As the docents experience and knowledge increase they may be asked to give interpretive programs on their own. Other interpretive topics include the Life Cycle of the Chinook Salmon, Water Safety, Cleanup / Maintenance / Trail Maintenance, and Cultural / Natural History. (Updated 10/03/2008)

Visitor Center - Volunteer needed from June 12, 2008 through May 31,2009. The hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays. Volunteers are asked to meet and greet visitors at the Kaweah Heritage Visitor Center atop the Lemon Hill Recreation area at beautiful Lake Kaweah. Specific duties include the following: staffing information desk, greeting the public and answering questions, operating cash register, checking brochure supplies and restocking shelves, directing visitor activity and handling telephone requests, helping to organize and present interpretive Water Safety programs and Campfire programs, and other assigned duties. Park Host, Horsecreek Campground - 3 month increments,-Volunteer needed from June 12, 2008 through May 31, 2009, except when campground is closed due to high water levels (usually from May-July). Park hosts are expected to ensure park entrance gates open in the morning and secure gates at night. Conduct periodic walkthroughs of park, greeting public and answering questions. Park Host may be bonded in order to perform fee collection within the campground and remit camping fees to Nation Recreation Reservation Service (NRRS) via computer. Some computer and cash register experience may be needed in order to perform NRRS operations. Park hosts do not enforce park regulations; however, they are expected to be the eyes and ears of the park rangers and are expected to assist rangers and visitors during emergencies. During the winter months, weekday visitation is low with moderate use during the weekend. During the fall and spring months, visitation is moderate during weekdays to occasionally heavy on weekends. During the summer months, visitation may be moderate to heavy during the weekdays and heavy on weekends. No maintenance functions are required, however minor litter pickup is expected. One camp site with full hook ups and phone line available for Volunteer Host. Horsecreek Campground is located 20 miles east of Visalia on State Hwy 198 and lies in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains not far from Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park. Trail Maintenance  - Year-Round. Volunteers complete maintenance concerns around the project by weeding flower beds, planting trees, installing wildlife boxes, and general maintenance. Volunteers also maintain established trail shelters located around Lake Okeechobee by mowing, trimming, cleaning fire rings, picking up litter, and general maintenance of the shelters. DAY USE FEE COLLECTOR VOLUNTEER

Job Description: The Day Use Fee program at Lake Red Rock includes collecting fees at two beaches and five boat ramps. The volunteer will be required to become bonded and will be reimbursed for the cost of the bonding. The duties of the volunteer include collecting fees at the North Overlook Beach booth as well as retrieving self-depository boxes from the beaches and the boat ramps around the lake. The self-depository boxes will then be transported to the project office to be counted with a Corps of Engineers employee. The volunteer will be required to track their mileage to be reimbursed for travel while performing volunteer duties. A free full-service campsite is provided at the North Overlook Campground (site 19) during the volunteer’s work period. Volunteers must be able to work the entire work period. The volunteer will work five days a week with two days off in the middle of the week. Good communication skills are necessary. Volunteers must provide a safe, licensed, insured camping unit and vehicle and be at least 18 years old. Volunteers will wear provided volunteer uniform while performing volunteer duties. FIFIELD RECREATION AREA VOLUNTEER

Work Period: April 10 - October 12, 2009

Job Description: Fifield Recreation Area is a scenic picnic area with four shelters, two restrooms, a playground, and a Volksweg Trail trailhead. The duties of the volunteer in this area include cleaning the restrooms and shelters, removing trash, picking up litter, opening the park entrance gate and restroom buildings by 8:00 a.m., and mowing and trimming the grass. A John Deere tractor mounted mower and string trimmer with fuel and supplies will be provided by the Corps of Engineers. The Fifield Volunteer will also be responsible for cleaning the restroom at the Marina Cove, and emptying the trash receptacles. A John Deere Gator 4-wheel vehicle will be supplied for transportation from Fifield to the Marina. All of the cleaning supplies will be provided. A free full-service site is provided in the Fifield Recreation Area and the area is gated from 11:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. Volunteers must be able to work the entire work period. The volunteer will work five days a week with two days off in the middle of the week. Good communication skills are necessary. WHITEBREAST BEACH VOLUNTEER

Job Description: The Whitebreast Beach area includes an enclosed shelter house (Miner's Retreat), picnic tables, two vault toilets, a day use fee booth, a beach change/shower building and a beach. The duties of the volunteer in this area include cleaning the Miner’s Retreat shelter, completing pre and post inspections for special event permits at the Miner's Retreat shelter, cleaning vault toilets, cleaning the beach change/shower building, removing litter from the beach, removing trash from trash cans in the area, opening the beach entrance gate and change/shower building by 8:00a.m., and collecting fees at the day use fee booth. The volunteer will be required to track their mileage to be reimbursed for travel while performing fee remittance duties. The volunteer will also be required to become bonded and will be reimbursed for the cost of the bonding. All of the cleaning supplies will be provided. A free full-service campsite is provided at the Whitebreast Beach during the volunteer’s work period. Volunteers must be able to work the entire work period. The volunteer will work five days a week with two days off in the middle of the week. Good communication skills are necessary. Job Description: Campground Hosts are utilized at four of the lake's major campgrounds: Wallashuck, Whitebreast, North Overlook and Howell Station. Hosts will staff campground registration booths from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and greet incoming campers, answer questions regarding the National Recreation Reservation Service and provide visitors with other miscellaneous lake information. Volunteers will not collect money, but will provide information during the fee contractor's break period. A free campsite with electricity will be provided to the volunteer during their work period. Volunteers must be able to work the entire work period. The volunteer will work five days a week with two days off in the middle of the week. Good communication skills are necessary. Volunteers must provide a safe, licensed, insured camping unit and vehicle and be at least 18 years old. Volunteers will wear provided volunteer uniform while performing volunteer duties. WHITEBREAST LIGHT MAINTENANCE VOLUNTEER

Work Period: April - September

Job Description: Whitebreast Campground is a large scenic campground with a boat ramp, five shower buildings, four picnic shelters, six vault toilets, a youth camping area and one fish cleaning station. The duties of the volunteer in this area include cleaning out fire rings within the Whitebreast Campground and Youth Camp using a John Deere Gator 4 or 6-wheeler, performing custodial duties at the Whitebreast Youth Camp, performing custodial duties at the Whitebreast Campground area on Tuesdays and performing light maintenance duties at all Corps Recreation Areas as assigned. Custodial duties for the campground will include cleaning the five shower buildings, six vault toilets and the fish cleaning station. The volunteer will not be responsible for removing garbage from the garbage cans at the campsites. Mileage will be reimbursed for travel to other recreation areas to perform light maintenance duties (staining picnic tables, painting water fountains, etc.). The volunteer will be required to track their mileage to be reimbursed for travel while performing light maintenance duties. A free full-service campsite is provided at the Whitebreast Campground during the volunteer’s work period. Volunteers must be able to work the entire work period. The volunteer will work five days a week with two days off (determined by the volunteer coordinator). Good communication skills are necessary. TRAIL MAINTENANCE VOLUNTEER

Volunteer Work Period: Early May through September

Job Description: Lake Red Rock has a 10 mile asphalt trail, Volksweg Trail, which winds its way from below the Red Rock Dam, along the north side of Lake Red Rock and ends at the Fifield Recreation Area. Trail maintenance will consist of but not be limited to picking up trash on or along the trail, clearing all rocks, pebbles, acorns, sticks, etc. from the paved trail surface. Volunteer will utilize a mechanized trail sweeper and/or leaf blower (provided by the Corps of Engineers) to accomplish the majority of work; however, the volunteer will also need to sweep away debris by hand when the mechanized equipment is unable to remove it. In addition, the volunteer will also be responsible for cleaning fire rings in the recreation areas along the trail route (Howell Station, North Overlook, Wallashuck and Ivan’s Campgrounds). A free full-service campsite in Howell Station Campground (site 22) will be provided during the volunteer work period. Volunteers must be able to work the entire work period. The volunteer will work five days a week with two days off in the middle of the week. Good communication skills are necessary. Volunteers must provide a safe, licensed, insured camping unit and vehicle and be at least 18 years old. Volunteers will wear provided volunteer uniform while performing volunteer duties. BUTTERFLY GARDEN VOLUNTEER

Volunteer Work Period: Early May - September

Job Description: Volunteer will be responsible for maintaining the butterfly garden and other flower beds surrounding the visitor center and administrative office. Tools will be provided by the Corps. Duties will include weeding, fertilizing, thinning, deadheading, mulching and watering the flowers and other vegetation, and planting new plants as needed (plants purchased by Corps). The work schedule is flexible, but will be discussed with the volunteer coordinator prior to beginning work. Note: No free campsite is provided with this volunteer position. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Good communication skills are necessary. Volunteers will wear provided volunteer uniform while performing volunteer duties. Applicants must be physically capable of performing job duties. Volunteers must have a friendly attitude with the public and portray a positive image of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. NEST BOX VOLUNTEER

Duration of Work: April - August

Job Description: Volunteer will be responsible for maintenance of bluebird nesting boxes located throughout the lake area, and two purple martin houses located in the North Tailwater and South Tailwater Recreation Areas. Volunteer will prepare structures for nesting of target species, document findings on nesting success and make repairs or replace structures as needed. A free full-service campsite in Wallashuck Campground (site 51) is provided during the work period. The volunteer will be required to track their mileage to be reimbursed for travel while performing nest box duties. Volunteer must have some knowledge of eastern bluebird and purple martin habits. Volunteers must also provide their own transportation to and from each nesting site. Volunteer capable of minor woodworking skills is preferred. Volunteers must be able to work the entire work period. Good communication skills are necessary. Volunteers must provide a safe, licensed, insured camping unit and vehicle and be at least 18 years old. Volunteers will wear provided volunteer uniform while performing volunteer duties. WALLASHUCK CUSTODIAL VOLUNTEER

Duration of Work : 23 April - 12 October 2009

Job Description : Wallashuck Campground is a medium-sized, scenic campground with eighty campsites, three shower buildings, one vault toilet, a picnic shelter, fish cleaning station and a boat ramp (used only at high water levels). The Wallashuck Custodial Volunteers will perform the following duties: clean the shower buildings and restrooms, dump station, vault toilet, picnic shelter and the surfaces of the fish cleaning station. The volunteer will be required to track their mileage to be reimbursed for travel while performing custodial duties. All cleaning supplies will be furnished by the government. A free full-service campsite is provided at the Wallashuck Campground during the volunteer’s work period. Volunteers must be able to work the entire work period. The volunteer will work five days a week with two days off (determined by the volunteer coordinator). Good communication skills are necessary. Volunteers must provide a safe, licensed, insured camping unit and vehicle and be at least 18 years old. Volunteers will wear provided volunteer uniform while performing volunteer duties. WALLASHUCK MOWING VOLUNTEER

Duration of Work : 23 April - 12 October 2009

Job Description : Wallashuck Campground is a medium-sized, scenic campground with eighty campsites and approximately thirty acres of lawn to be mowed. The duties of the mowing volunteer will be to provide mowing services and dump the fish cleaning station garbage. A John Deere tractor mounted mower with fuel and supplies will be provided by the Corps of Engineers. Garbage bags (for the fish cleaning station) will also be provided by the government. The volunteer will be required to track their mileage to be reimbursed for travel while performing volunteer duties. A free full-service campsite is provided at the Wallashuck Campground during the volunteer’s work period. Volunteers must be able to work the entire work period. The volunteer will work five days a week with two days off (determined by the volunteer coordinator). Good communication skills are necessary. Volunteers must provide a safe, licensed, insured camping unit and vehicle and be at least 18 years old. Volunteers will wear provided volunteer uniform while performing volunteer duties. Job Description: Wallashuck Campground is a medium-sized, scenic campground with eighty campsites, three shower buildings, one vault toilet, a picnic shelter, fish cleaning station and a boat ramp (used only at high water levels). The Wallashuck Trimming Volunteers will perform the following duties: trim all weeds and grasses in the Wallashuck Campground, clean the shower buildings and restrooms on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and performing light maintenance duties at Corps Recreation Areas as assigned. The volunteer will be required to track their mileage to be reimbursed for travel while performing custodial duties. A string trimmer with fuel and supplies and all cleaning supplies will be furnished by the government. A free campsite with electricity, the ability to fill with water close-by and a 40-gallon tank tote will be provided at the Wallashuck Campground (site 60A) during the volunteer’s work period. Volunteers must be able to work the entire work period. The volunteer will work five days a week with two days off (determined by the volunteer coordinator). Good communication skills are necessary. Volunteers must provide a safe, licensed, insured camping unit and vehicle and be at least 18 years old. Volunteers will wear provided volunteer uniform while performing volunteer duties. IVAN’S RECREATION AREA VOLUNTEER

Work Period: Mid Summer - 28 September 2009

Job Description: Ivan’s Campground is a popular riverside campground with 22 campsites, one shower building, and a fish cleaning station. The Ivan’s volunteer will perform the following duties: clean the shower building, clean the fish cleaning station, empty the trash from 23 garbage cans, mow and trim approximately 3 acres of lawn in the campground, clean water fountains, and collect camping fees. A John Deere tractor mounted mower and a John Deere Gator 4 or 6-wheeler with fuel and supplies will be provided by the Corps of Engineers to perform mowing operations and haul trash to the South Tailwater dumpsters. The volunteer will be required to become bonded and will be reimbursed for the cost of the bonding. The volunteer will be required to track their mileage to be reimbursed for travel while retrieving cashier’s check for camping fee remittances. A free full-service campsite will be provided at the Ivan’s campground during the volunteer’s work period. Volunteers must be able to work the entire work period. Good communication skills are necessary. Volunteers must provide a safe, licensed, insured camping unit and vehicle and be at least 18 years old. Cleaning Hosts

Volunteers are required to maintain cleanliness at picnic areas, boat ramps and /or campgrounds on assigned days. Cleaning duties vary at each location and will be supplemented with other duties to meet hour requirements. A campsite with electric, sewer, and water is provided in respective parks with 21 hours of service per week.

Volunteers use a cash register and must be eligible to be bonded, ineligibility may include recent bankruptcy or bad credit history. A campsite with electric, sewer, and water is provided in Sandpiper Volunteer Campground. 21 hours of service is required per week.

 Visitor Center

Volunteers staff the Saylorville Lake Visitor Center and assist the public by answering general questions. Hours vary throughout the year from 10am - 6pm. Additional opportunities will be needed to meet minimum hour requirement (see additional opportunities). A campsite with electric, sewer, and water is provided in Sandpiper Volunteer Campground with 21 hours of service per week.

*Part-time opportunities may be available January through October. These positions will earn camping through the volunteer camping pass program. 

Full-time Campground Host

Volunteers staff the campground entrance station when contracted park attendants are off duty (10am - 2pm). Position also requires staffing the Visitor Center one day each week. Additional opportunities will be needed to meet minimum hour requirement (see additional opportunities). A campsite with electric, sewer, and water is provided in assigned campground with 21 hours of service per week.

 Interpretive Program Host

Volunteers in this position assist the Interpretive Services and Outreach Personnel with providing educational programming. Duties also include scheduling, inventory control, and written publications. A campsite with electric, sewer, and water is provided in Prairie Flower Campground with 21 hours of service per week.

 Natural Resource &

Habitat Enhancement

Volunteers must be physically fit, able to lift up to 40 lbs., and willing to work in all weather conditions. Hours will be Monday - Friday, between 8am - 4pm. Responsibilities include pruning, mulching, raking, trail clearing, and other tasks. Knowledge of landscape/park maintenance, pruning methods, tree care and use of chemicals is preferred, but training is available. Volunteers must have a valid driver's license and are responsible for ensuring that their personal insurance will cover any/all expenses acquired in the event of an accident in a government vehicle. A campsite with electric, sewer, and water is provided in Sandpiper Volunteer Campground with 21 hours of service per week.

Office Cleaning/Delivery Host

Volunteers will clean the administration office and lunch room, make copies and deliveries to the campgrounds, and maintain picnic area bulletin boards. A campsite with electric, sewer, and water is provided in Sandpiper Volunteer Campground with 21 hours of service per week.

 Shelter Reservation Desk

Volunteers will process shelter reservations at the Saylorville Lake Administration Office. Hours are 9am - 4pm, Monday - Friday. Volunteers use cash register, computer, and must be eligible to be bonded, ineligibility may include recent bankruptcy or bad credit history. Volunteer will also be required to staff a day use booth one day every other week. A campsite with electric, sewer, and water is provided in Sandpiper Volunteer Campground with 21 hours of service per week.

The following positions are part-time or temporary volunteer positions. A combination of positions may be grounds for a full time volunteer position.

Animal Care

The primary duty of Animal Care volunteer is to provide food and clean cages for each animal in the Saylorville Lake Visitor Center. Animal care knowledge is beneficial, but the volunteer will be trained on specific needs of each animal.

Bird Feeders

The primary duty of Bird Feeder Volunteers is to fill the bird feeders at the Saylorville Lake Visitor Center weekly with food provided by the Corps of Engineers. Volunteers will also fill, clean and refill the hummingbird feeders in the Saylorville Lake Butterfly Garden.

Bluebird Nest Box Monitor

The primary duty of Bluebird Next Box Monitors is to monitor 6-12 bluebird boxes as assigned around Saylorville Lake. The boxes should be checked at a minimum of once a week April-August. Volunteers keep a log of the activity at each box, these records and volunteer hours should be turned in to the Bluebird Volunteer Coordinator each month. Volunteers are responsible for all transportation and transportation costs associated with their position.  This includes having access to a reliable licensed vehicle, fuel, valid vehicle insurance, and a valid driver's license.

Butterfly Gardening

The primary duty of the Butterfly Garden Volunteers is to care for and maintain an assigned flowerbed in the Saylorville Lake Butterfly Garden. Gardeners help plan, plant and maintain their respective flowerbed. This position requires a few hours of volunteer service each week during the growing season. Plants and some equipment are provided by the Corps of Engineers.

Educational Programs

The primary duty of Educational Program Volunteers is to assist with interpretive programs and events. Volunteers perform programs or provide assistance to ranger staff doing school and public programs throughout the year.

Litter Pick Up/Shoreline Beautification The primary duty of Litter Pick Up/Shoreline Beautification is to help keep our recreation areas and shoreline free of litter. Volunteers will be provided gloves and trash bags to assist in removing refuse from project lands.

Office/Clerical

The primary duty of Office/Clerical Volunteers is to assist ranger and administration staff in the Saylorville Administration Office. Duties may include data entry, filing, copying, folding and organizing.

Photographer

The primary duty of a Photographer is to snap photos of wildlife, recreation areas, people recreating, scenic photos, etc. at Saylorville Lake . Photos are then made available to Corps of Engineers employees for use in publications, displays, and on the web site.

Special Events

The primary duty of Special Events volunteers is to provide assistance to Park Rangers with scheduled events. Volunteer activities vary but may include parking cars, staffing information booths, and selling merchandise for the Iowa Academy of Science.  (Listed 01/06/2009)

 Visitor Center Volunteer - Rathbun Lake is looking for  Visitor Center Volunteers to staff our Visitor Center on weekends  May – September.  Duties would include greeting visitors, answering questions about facilities, issuing  day use passes and answering phone inquiries.  The Volunteer  may also be assisting with Customer Comment Card Surveys in park areas at designated times.  We are looking for energetic applicants that would love to work in a visitor center /campground setting,  and enjoy working with our visitors.  All required supplies will be provided by the Corps of Engineers.  Volunteers will be responsible for their own transportation.  This position will include a full hookup site in exchange for 16 hours volunteer work per week.  Volunteer positions are available for a one month rotation or longer during recreation season depending upon work items and volunteer waiting list. 
 

Park Maintenance -Rathbun Lake is looking for  Park Maintenance Volunteers to perform light duty maintenance and resource management work items in our park areas on a very flexible schedule.  We are looking for energetic applicants that would love to work in a campground setting, with no weekend work. We currently have two Park Maintenance positions available at Corps parks around the lake.  Examples of our light duty maintenance work include:  picnic table board replacement, staining and painting of facilities.  Resource management examples include:  removal of tree suckers and trimming of tree limbs. Recreation examples include:  shoreline and park area litter pickup, bulletin board material posting, and sign installation.  All required supplies and tools will be provided by the Corps of Engineers.  Volunteers will be responsible for their own transportation and personal protective equipment.  We require our volunteers to work only 16 hours per week in exchange for an electric campsite.  Volunteer positions are available for a one month rotation or longer during recreation season depending upon work items and volunteer waiting list.  Our recreation season runs from April 15, 2009 to October 15, 2009. Volunteer Park Attendants for Dent Acres Campground: Enjoy the spring or fall in beautiful northern Idaho. Dent Acres is a full service campground with 50 campsites, a boat launch ramp, playground and restroom with showers. The lake offers nearly 54 miles of fishing and boating opportunities. Spring opening: Two couples needed from April 1 to May 21, 2009. Fall opening: Two couples needed for September 4 to November 25, 2009. Work is a minimum 30 hours per week, with most duties between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. and between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old, with no significant physical and mental condition that would prevent the volunteer from carrying out these duties. Volunteers live on-site and answer visitor questions, provide directions and other assistance, explain fee payment procedures and educate visitors about campground rules. Will assist park staff with minor projects such as painting, pruning brush or trees etc. Volunteers do not perform skilled maintenance duties or perform janitorial services. Full service campsite provided for no charge (water, sewer, electric service with 50 amp maximum. Volunteers provide their own rv or trailer (sites can accommodate 35 foot trailer). Park Host-Volunteer needed at Mack's Creek Park from approximately April  1, 2009 through October 30, 2009. Mack’s Creek is a non-fee boat launch facility with approximately 15 associated primitive non-fee day-use and/or short-term camping sites and is the only vehicle-accessible camping area at Lucky Peak Dam & Lake. Duties primarily include regular meet and greet with park visitors to provide information assistance, obtain basic registration information and to maintain a helpful overnight weekend presence in the area. A 4-wheel motorized Kawasaki "Mule" can be provided to facilitate these efforts. Additionally, this position will include minor litter pick-up, light grounds maintenance such as tree and brush trimming or tree and shrub watering, and any other light maintenance projects you may wish to carve out for yourself! Past Volunteer Hosts have been reimbursed fuel expenses to/from your current address to Boise, ID, daily incidental expenses, and mileage reimbursement to/from Boise for weekly laundry services. The Host Site is slightly removed from the park and includes a new 14' steel shade shelter and concrete pad, phone service, sewage hook-up, 50-amp generator-supplied service, and a securable storage shed. Park staff transfers you potable water by portable tank. Lucky Peak Dam & Lake is the Gateway to the Boise National Forest for the Boise urban area (~400,000 people). 15 minutes from downtown Boise, we are the nearest lake recreation for area residents. Mowing Volunteer- This position requires the maintenance and operation of a commercial riding mower and a gasoline powered line trimmer. This equipment will be used to mow and trim approximately 19 acres in the Opossum Creek Recreation Area or approximately 17 acres in the Lone Point recreation Area.

Cleaning Volunteer- This position could require the cleaning of comfort stations, shower houses, picnic shelters, and litter pickup depending on the campground facilities. This work can be divided into two tours: one for the weekend (Saturday – Sunday) and the other is for weekdays (Monday – Friday). The purpose of this schedule is to divide the workload so that no one has to work more than approximately 20 hours per week.

There may be the opportunity for two volunteer couples to share the cleaning and mowing work. A campsite will be provided to volunteers that include water, sewer and a 50 amp electrical hook up. All campground rules and regulation will apply to volunteers while staying in the campgrounds. The campgrounds will be open from May 1 to September 2, 2009. Camp Host - The Camp Host will have duties in visitor assistance and facility maintenance.
Campground surveillance will be primarily on the weekends (Friday night, Saturday day/night, Sunday day). A register of camper occupancies dates and tag numbers will be recorded by the Camp Host(s) and given to the Rangers on a weekly basis. Camp Host(s) duties will also include maintaining fee envelope boxes with proper material, answering the public's questions, and handing out informative material such as maps when requested by the public.  The Camp Host(s) will be responsible for the mowing and weed eating around trees in French Creek Cove campground. Some other light maintenance duties may be assigned, such as painting, fixing site markers, watering flowerbeds and litter pick-up. All required supplies and tools will be provided by the Lake Office to complete the assigned jobs. The Camp Host(s) is required to provide 20 hours per week service in exchange for a free campsite with full hookups. Positions are for a 6 week rotation but are negotiable. Facility maintenance will include cleaning one of the two toilet / shower buildings in the park and insuring that supplies are kept stocked in these facilities.  Other duties will include roadside litter pickup, swim beach litter pickup, cleaning of fire rings, and watering and maintaining flowerbeds. Volunteers will be provided with all required administrative supplies, radios, cleaning supplies, and other tools.  Volunteer periods for a shorter length of time than shown above will be considered although 60 days is considered a minimum.
Volunteer Coordinator / Honor Camp Work Crew Supervisor - March 1, 2009 through November 30, 2009. Volunteer will be provided with a full service site.  This is a challenging and rewarding position.  The volunteer’s main duty will be to supervise a Department of Corrections Honor Camp Work Crew in various recreation / resource management projects in Corps of Engineers campgrounds.  Projects may include but are not limited to:  boundary line brush clearing, park / facility mowing, trail construction and maintenance, bird house / feeder construction and installation, park litter pickup, and similar projects.  Volunteer will be provided with training prior to beginning work with the honor camp crews.  A vehicle will also be provided for the volunteer.  Volunteer must have a valid drivers license.  (Updated 10/08/2008)

Park Host/Water Safety - May 1, 2009 through September 30, 2009.  Park Host will have duties with visitor assistance and water safety. Duties include assisting campers by providing lake information and distributing Title 36, Lake Maps, and Water Safety Material. Volunteers may also staff the Visitor Center during peak hours and provide information to visitors in person and over the phone. Volunteers will update/maintain the existing bulletin boards by adding new material and making minor structural repairs. The volunteers will also perform courtesy vessel inspections at boat ramps and assist the Ranger staff with on the water vessel inspections. Volunteers will take photographs of visitors and wildlife, and may be asked by the staff to assist with various light duty tasks.

Park Maintenance– May 1, 2009 through September 30, 2009. Volunteers will perform various light duty maintenance work to include: painting, staining, light carpentry work (repair/replace rotted or damaged boards on bulletin boards and picnic tables). Minor landscaping to include: pruning, weeding flowerbeds, planting and watering trees/shrubs, etc.  Maintain existing trails by removing litter and encroaching vegetation using hand tools such as shovels, rakes, loppers, and handsaws. Some duties will be performed alone or with the Maintenance or Ranger staff. Volunteers will be provided with all required supplies and tools to complete the assigned jobs. Volunteers are required to provide 20 hours of week service for a full service campsite, which includes 50 amp electric, water, and sewer. Park Camp Host – March 30, 2009 through November 3, 2009. This position is located at Pearson-Skubitz Big Hill Lake, Kansas in the Timber Hill Campground. This campground includes 20 campsites and is located on the East-Central area of the lake. Big Hill Lake is located within Labette County in Southeast Kansas. The land consists of rolling hills covered in cedars, oaks and other hardwoods. Predominate wildlife species include the Eastern Wild Turkey, Whitetail Deer, Bobcat, Coyote and other small mammals such as Raccoon, Opossum and Armadillo. These species can easily be viewed by the watchful eye. Fishing on Big Hill Lake is top of the class. Big Hill is host to many tournaments throughout the spring and summer months. The volunteer will be provided a full service (50 amp, sewer, water, local phone access & internet) site near the entrance to the campground and boat launching facility. A mail box is also available for mail pick-up at the site. Other amenities include a small storage shed and an area for a garden. As an important part of Big Hill’s visitor assistance program the volunteer will welcome visitors and provide information regarding fees, rules, regulations, and other general park information.  The volunteer will monitor park activities and contact a park ranger if problems are observed. Other duties will include basic maintenance tasks, roadside litter pickup, sign maintenance, cleaning of fire rings, and fee compliance checks within campground area. Camp Host/Custodian - The primary duty of the camp host/custodian is to provide visitor assistance duties for the visitors.  The volunteer will collect camping fees, hand out information to the public, clean the restrooms, shower building, and fire rings for a park with 32 campsites.  The volunteer will be responsible for keeping the campground tidy and oversee daily operations of the park in exchange for a full utility campsite.  The volunteer will be required to serve for the entire recreation season May through September.  Visitor Center Lawn Care -The lawn care volunteer will be responsible for maintaining the yard area around the Corps of Engineers Administrative Office.  Duties include mowing, trimming, and fertilizing the lawn.  Maintaining shrub beds, mulching, and weed control will also be the responsibility of the volunteer.   The volunteer must be available from May through September for a 20 hour work week.  A full utility campsite will be provided to the volunteer.  A weekly work schedule will be determined with the Volunteer Coordinator.

Campground Host – Enjoy the summer season from May 1, 2009 through Sept. 30, 2009  in beautiful North central Minnesota at a 119 site, full amenity campground which opens to the Whitefish Chain of Lakes. 1 couple, 18 years of age or older needed to provide information and answer questions on campground policy and Corps regulations to the public, assist park visitors during weather related emergencies, monitor park activities while COE staff is off duty, operate a two way radio, record daily traffic counter and visitation numbers, maintain current information on park bulletin boards and re-supply day use fee information and materials. Other light maintenance duties include pickup of miscellaneous trash throughout the park, clean up of campsites for incoming campers and repapering of privy’s and comfort stations. Corps of Engineers will provide all supplies to complete duties. Enthusiasm, a courteous and friendly attitude and good communication skills are highly important. In exchange a 30-amp campsite with water and sewer hookup will be offered and the use of all campground facilities and amenities.

 Maintenance Volunteer – 1 couple, 18 years of age or older needed, May 1, 2009 through Sept. 30, 2009 to perform daily raking of 3 playgrounds, 1 volleyball and 1 horseshoe area; the occasional repair of playground, horseshoe and basketball court equipment; weekly safety monitoring and minor repair of all fishing and launch docks; the replacement and staining of park benches, picnic tables, fences, garbage can blinds and vault toilets. Powerplant Tour Guide – Volunteers needed from March 2009 – June 2009 to conduct powerplant tours at Gavins Point Powerplant. Tour guides will become familiar with the general operation of the powerplant and lead school groups and public tours. Campground Host:  The Corps of Engineers, Garrison Project in North Dakota is looking to fill volunteer this position for May 1, 2009 through September 2009. This Host position is for Wolf Creek Campground, which is located on the quiet shores of Lake Sakakawea. Wolf Creek is a primitive campground with 101 sites; however, the Campground Host is provided a site with full hook ups. Hosts should be outgoing, friendly, and enjoy working with people. We rely on our hosts to help us with visitor assistance, maintaining rules, and garbage pickup. Both 2.5 and 5 month positions are available.

Campground Host/Downstream Campground:  We are looking to fill a volunteer Campground Host position for May 1, 2009 through September 2009. This host position is for Downstream Campground, which is a Class A campground and is located in a cottonwood forest along the beautiful Missouri River. Downstream Campground has 101 modern campsites and 17 primitive campsites.  Hosts are provided a site with full hook-ups. Campground Host- Volunteer Campground Hosts position available, May 1, 2009 through September 30, 2009, at Corps of Engineer’s, Beaver Creek Campground on Lake Oahe, 16 miles West of Linton, North Dakota. Hosts are requested to stay a minimum of two weeks.  Duties include visitor assistance such as supplying information and sport equipment to campers and day users, answering camper’s questions, calling 911 or the Emmons County Sheriff’s Office as needed. Safety hazards or issues need to be addressed immediately and reported to the Park Manager or Park Ranger. Daily lists of occupied sites with vehicle license plate numbers are recorded.  Monitor the campgrounds water system checking for leaks, reading pressure gauges and checking the chlorinator system. Volunteers will do a light cleaning of the comfort station on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday of each week if needed or call the Park Manager if an additional contract cleaning is needed. Volunteers will not be paid for any services, mileage, incidentals, etc.  The volunteer hosts will stay on a full hookup site which includes a paved site partially shaded with trees, 30/50 amp electric service, water, sewage and close access to a public phone and possibly a phone line to the campsite.  Due to shifting earth and drought, water system failure is not uncommon.  Troubleshooting and repairs will be made as soon as the manpower or funds are available and the system is determined to be economically feasible to repair.  (Updated 10/08/2008)

Assist the Ranger with Scout badge programs, Junior Rangers in June, and school and home-school programs any time of year. Visitor Center Host - Volunteers needed during Open Houses of the Visitor Center on Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and during the Great Outdoor Weekend the last Saturday and Sunday of September. Volunteers will answer questions, keep brochures stocked, and hand out relevant information such as maps. Volunteer may also staff an activity station related to nature or water safety.

Boundary Blitzers - Strong nature lover's needed in October, November and December (weather permitting) to help mark and clear the park's boundary, weather permitting. Suitable for adults and possibly senior high students. Enjoy the outdoors in some of the more remote areas of the park. Even if you can't make these dates, call to help on other days.
Special Skills Needed: Must be in good physical condition, be able to carry heavy equipment and walk long distances over uneven terrain.

Nest Box Monitor - Volunteers needed April  through August  to monitor Bluebird nest boxes and record nesting progress on data sheets on a weekly basis. Routes normally take approximately one hour to walk each week. Training for this position typically takes place in March. Other nesting or roosting boxes that are monitored and maintained on a yearly basis include squirrel den, wood duck and bat boxes.               
Butterfly Monitor - Volunteers needed April  through October  to identify and record butterfly species on a weekly basis. Routes normally take one to two hours to walk each week, depending on which route is chosen. However, volunteers can also serve as substitutes or volunteer on a bi-weekly or monthly basis to give primary monitors a break. Couples and a home school family have volunteered in the past. This position would also be good for a team of high school students desiring a project in natural sciences that also provides data for the park.  Primary duties as campground hosts include greeting & assisting campers, providing surveillance of camping area, litter pickup, and assisting in the entrance booths during busy times.  Hosts will not collect money or confront violators, but will act as “eyes & ears” for the ranger staff.  Volunteers must be friendly and able to communicate effectively with the public. 

In addition to hosting, volunteers will assist the ranger & maintenance staffs as needed with other duties, such as fisheries & wildlife management projects, interpretive programs, maintenance work, counting fees, collecting water quality data, inspection & realignment of navigational buoys, day use area patrols, boat patrols, and conducting visitor surveys.  Volunteers must be in good health and capable of physical work in an outdoor environment.

While there is some flexibility, volunteers generally work a minimum of 30 hours/week, including holidays and weekends.  Days off are mid-week. 

A campsite is provided, plus reimbursement for certain expenses. Site amenities include full hookups (Outflow or Mill Run Campgrounds) or a site with electricity (Tub Run Campground).  Volunteers must provide their own camping equipment. 

Uniforms and all necessary safety equipment will be provided. 

Many outdoor recreation opportunities are available in this rural and beautiful corner of southwestern Pennsylvania, western Maryland, and northern West Virginia.  Most supplies can be obtained in the small town of Confluence, PA, or in larger towns within a 30 miles radius.( Updated 10/08/2008)

Wildlife and Forestry Management Volunteer - Volunteers will be assisting with natural resource management work on Thurmond Lake, GA/SC. Duties include: wildlife surveys for bald eagles, waterfowl, deer, and quail, prescribed fire, managed deer and turkey hunts, endangered species surveys, marking and cruising timber, data collection and maintenance using GPS and GIS, and water quality monitoring. The type of volunteer opportunities available vary with the season. The work can be physically demanding. Since much of the field work is done with Ranger personnel, volunteers are needed mainly on weekdays during normal business hours. Thurmond Lake is located approximately 25 miles from Augusta, GA. Numerous hunting and fishing opportunities are available. This volunteer position will provide college students with a variety of hands on experience in natural resources management. There is a high demand to volunteer at this particular lake because of its location (being in South Texas) and its beauty. A "Volunteer Village" is created in October in one of the closed sections of Potter's Creek Park. This "village" gives the volunteers a sense of community and accommodates the volunteer with 30 and 50 amp hook-ups, water, their own restroom facility, and a dump station just around the corner. Also, there are a few (6) volunteer positions available at the seasonally-closed parks. All volunteers are required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week in lieu of the camp site offered. Volunteers primary responsibilities are to provide park maintenance and up-keep at all the parks and visitor areas. Volunteer Interpreter-We are currently looking for a volunteer to present interpretive programs for children and adults. Programs will be presented at campgrounds around Lake Whitney beginning in early April and ending in mid-August. Applicants must have knowledge of Texas flora and fauna, and a willingness to educate the public on environmental and natural topics. Volunteer will be expected to work 12-15 hours a week preparing and presenting programs, and providing information to the public in a campground setting. Volunteer may have assistance from lake staff during presentations, but must be able to work independently, if necessary.
 

Park Host-Lake Whitney is looking for volunteers to serve as Park Hosts in campgrounds around the project. Duties will include assisting the public, litter removal, light maintenance, occasional restroom cleaning and stocking, and occasional mowing and trimming. We have a cleaning and mowing contract in place, but at times, volunteers may be needed to supplement the contracted cleanings and mowings. Volunteers may be provided with a vehicle to use in their duties, and other equipment such as mowers and cleaning supplies will be provided by the Corps. Campground hosts do not enforce park regulations; however, they are the eyes and ears of the park rangers and assist rangers and visitors during emergencies.  Campground hosts may on rare occasions be required to assist with traffic control within the campground. Bulltown Campground is one of area’s most popular campgrounds, and the host provides a very valuable service. This campground is located 12 miles off Exit 67, Interstate 79.  In exchange for the services, campground hosts are provided a RV site with water, sewage, and electric at the entrance to the campground.

Since the host is bonded, this will be a long-term assignment (from mid-May through the end of September).  Host may also be responsible for posting reserved sites daily if it is decided to enter this campground in NRRS.  Campground hosts do not enforce park regulations; however, they are the eyes and ears of the park rangers and assist rangers and visitors during emergencies.  Riffle Run Campground is one of area’s most popular campgrounds, and the host provides a very valuable service.  This campground is located 3 miles off Exit 79, Interstate 79.  In exchange for the services, campground hosts are provided a RV site with water, sewage, and electric at the entrance to the campground.

Bulltown Day-Use Area – Day-Use Area Host – mid-May through Labor Day – monitor visitors to and assist park rangers to see that rules and regulations are obeyed.  Burnsville Lake, Bulltown Day-Use Area is approximately 12 miles from Interstate 79, Exit 67.  Volunteer will be provided with a campsite with full hookups (no telephone).  The host will have two major duties:  visitor assistance and facility maintenance. As an important part of the visitor assistance program, the volunteer will welcome visitors, and provide literature, brochures, and general information on facilities, fees, rules and regulations, etc.  Monitor the boat launch ramp, informing users of the boat ramp launch fee.  The volunteer will monitor park activities and will contact a park ranger if a problem is observed. Facility maintenance will include cleaning the restroom near Shelter 5, the grounds in the picnic area, and Shelters 5 and 6.  Duties include insuring that supplies are kept stocked in the restroom.  Other duties will include roadside litter pickup, cleaning the grills, emptying trash cans, and planting, watering, and maintaining flowerbeds. The host shall clean shelters by 9:00 a.m., shall clean the restroom by 10:00 a.m., and shall collect litter in the entire park area by 11:00 a.m. (daily).  The playground and horseshoe pits shall be maintained, including leveling of the surface materials and inspecting the area for any hazards such as broken glass (weekly).  Grills shall be maintained, including removal of all material and ashes within the grills/rings (weekly).  Garbage shall be collected from trash receptacles and the liners shall be replaced as necessary (at least weekly).  The “Reserved” signs shall be posted before 9:00 a.m. on days of reservations, and the signs shall be replaced at the end of the day (as needed).  Volunteers will be provided with all required administrative supplies, a radio, cleaning supplies, and any other necessary tools.  Hosts must provide their own Recreational Vehicle (RV) and should have a pickup or similar vehicle for hauling trash.  They must have the ability to effectively communicate with the public and must be capable of physical work duties in an outdoor environment.  A set schedule must be maintained, and the host must be willing to commit to a long term agreement.  The host must wear the prescribed host uniform (vest with nametag and patch) while performing duties and must have the ability to utilize radio equipment in a professional manner.  Volunteer periods for a shorter length of time than shown above will be considered although 60 days is considered a minimum.

Bulltown Historic Area – Visitor Center Volunteer/Interpreter – Positions are available between May 15 and October 15 at Bulltown Historic Area Visitor Center (12 miles off Interstate 79, Exit 67).  Greet and assist visitors upon their arrival.  Provide visitors brochures, and explain interpretive displays and programs available to them.  Answer phones and messages in a timely manner.  Track visitation and compile monthly data.  Operate videos and slide show in theater upon request.  Keep brochure rack in lobby properly filled with supplied brochures.  Provide programs such as campfire programs, historic area tours, living history demonstrations, and talks to visitors, campers, and local residents. Program topics include natural resources, safety, and cultural and natural history.  Plant, water and weed flower beds around visitor center. Assist park rangers with other activities as needed.  Other duties will include light cleaning duties in the visitor center, trash pickup in the parking lot and area adjacent to the visitor center, and limited security of the visitor center.  Campsite with electric hookup is available.  Volunteer will receive one night of camping for each four hours of service performed.

All Areas – Facility Maintenance Volunteer – Positions are available mid-April through fall.  Volunteers will perform various light duty maintenance work to include: painting, staining; light carpentry work (repair/replace rotted or damaged boards on tables, fences, etc.); replace screens in park restrooms and shower facilities; plant and water flowers and weed flowerbeds; plant and prune trees and shrubs; pick up litter throughout the project and debris along the shoreline; mow and maintain nature trails; clean grills; maintain bulletin boards; and other light maintenance duties.  Volunteers are required to provide 20 hours per week service in exchange for a free campsite with electric hookup.

Light Maintenance/Visitor Center Host/Fee Station Attendant - Mid April through Early September.  We are seeking volunteers willing to perform light maintenance from mid-April through late May, and then act as visitor center hosts and fee collectors at our swim area from late May through early September.   Examples of maintenance duties include grass mowing and trimming, painting, landscaping, sign maintenance, trail maintenance, and de-winterizing facilities. Special projects, less routine in nature, may also be available.

Visitor Center Host/Fee Station Attendant - Late May through Early September.  As an alternative to the above, we may be willing to select volunteers willing to work from late May thru early September as fee station attendants and visitor center hosts.

Light Duty Maintenance Volunteer -  Mid-April through Early October. Examples of duties include grass mowing and trimming, painting, landscaping, sign maintenance, trail maintenance, and de-winterizing facilities.  Special projects, less routine in nature, may also be available.
 

Volunteers camp for free on sites featuring concrete pads; plus water, sewage, and 50 amp electric hookups. East Lynn Lake in East Lynn, West Virginia has available Campground Host positions which require the volunteer(s) to live in the recreation area and perform the duties to operate a campground or day use recreation area. It is our goal to provide a family oriented camping experience by personally greeting East Lynn Lake visitors in a friendly and courteous manner, and, to promote the safe, responsible use of project facilities and resources, while providing high quality customer service and information.

The volunteer(s) will welcome visitors, and provide literature, brochures, and general information on facilities, fees, rules and regulations and the National Recreation Reservation Service (NRRS), Conduct periodic walk through/drive through of park to assure campers are on assigned sites according to records. The volunteer will monitor park activities and will contact a park ranger if a problem is observed; the host must have the ability to utilize radio equipment in a professional manner. 

Volunteers must be capable of physical work duties in an outdoor environment and will be needed to perform light maintenance duties which may include restroom cleanings;  light carpentry work, painting, staining; grass mowing, trimming, and landscaping; litter pick up throughout the project and debris along the shoreline; maintain nature trails; and other light maintenance duties.  

Work shifts are generally 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and may include evening and/or nighttime hours, split shifts, and will almost always include weekends and holidays. Bakers Run Campground-Campground Host-Sutton Lake has campground host positions available  May 1, 2009 through October 30, 2009, which require the volunteer's to live in the campground and perform the duties of meeting and greeting campers, assisting Park Rangers and Park Attendants with periodic campground checks and maintaining the overall aesthetics of  the campground (Some litter pick-up, etc.) In addition, volunteers will monitor campground activities and contact a Park Ranger or Park Attendants if problems are observed. Host must posses a friendly and courteous manner and be available to assist campers by providing information and handing out materials.  Two - Three months duration.

Campground Host-Volunteer campground host position available at Robert W. Craig Campground from May 1, 2009 through September 30, 2009. As a volunteer campground host, you will typically be expected to greet campers; give directions, answer questions, and hand out comment cards; help campers feel at home; perform minor maintenance and patrol the campground; stock restrooms, and minimal record keeping. A host must generally be physically able to perform some minor trail work, painting, trimming shrubbery and trees, and other light maintenance assigned by the rangers. A host must work well with people, be personable and neat in appearance. The host may also be called upon to present Saturday evening programs to the campers, weather permitting.

Open Shaw Beach as scheduled and perform daily checklist tasks when assigned serve as a beach visitor host when requested

You may be required to be on-site five days per week, especially on weekends and heavy use holidays. The work week will generally consist of 20 hours/week/volunteer. The park host will be provided with an electric camping site at no cost during the volunteer period. The host is therefore responsible to provide a safe, licensed, insured camping unit and vehicle. Battle Run Campground – Campground Host – Labor Day (September 7) thru Columbus Day (October 12) – Looking for two outgoing couples to register campers. In addition, hosts should be available to assist campers by providing information and handing out brochures. This campground is located 3.5 miles off US 19 on US 129. There are several convenience stores located nearby and the town of Summersville (Population approx. 3,000) is 15 miles from the campground.

Day Use Area Host: Volunteers are needed May 1 through September 30 to provide both the following services:

Visitor Assistance – Monitor park activities and provide information to visitors.  Distribute comment cards, maps and information brochures to park visitors. Note violations of park rules, accidents and injuries and report them to the Resource Manager promptly. Post RESERVED sign on picnic shelter as needed. Volunteer must be cordial, friendly and willing to assist park visitors.

Housekeeping – Clean the restroom twice daily on weekends/holidays and once daily on weekdays. Perform minor maintenance to fixtures and hardware as needed and promptly report maintenance deficiencies to park officials. Volunteer will be provided cleaning supplies, tools, cleaning schedule and admin supplies. Morning cleanings will be competed by 10:00am. Evening cleanings will be performed after 4:00pm. Host must be able to work safely and independent of immediate oversight.
The Downstream Area 1 Day Use Area is located directly below Bluestone Dam along the New River near Hinton West Virginia.  The area is frequented heavily by fishermen and Little League baseball participants.
