NACO Trainers'/Liaisons Assignment list:

As stated throughout the NACO documentation, the underlying principle of NACO is that participants agree to follow a common set of standards and guidelines when creating or changing authority records in order to maintain the integrity of a large shared authority file. During the week of NACO training these guidelines are discussed and built upon with a view to streamlining processes while building a consistent and predictable file that will reduce the duplication of efforts of the global library community and maximize its resources.

BASIC Required Documentation of the NACO Program:

A requirement of NACO membership is that all authority contributions are to be formulated using the following documentation:

  • The Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (second revised edition) Chapters 22-26 and index.
  • The MARC 21 Authority Format (including the DCM Z1 addition issued by the Library of Congress (known as the yellow pages) and the LC Guidelines Supplement to the MARC 21Format for Authority Data (known as the "blue pages")
  • The Library of Congress Rule Interpretations (LCRIs) Chapters 22-26
  • The LCRI and DCM updates are available now on the CDS web site
  • The Library of Congress Subject Cataloging Manual (SCM) Memo H405
