A total of 25 new and 10 revised subject authorities have been submitted to the Library of Congress since the last update (Fall 2002). In some case, the revisions were merely changes to the cross-references. A few of such simple changes were omitted from the Fall 2002 report.

In addition to the above, Margaret Hughes at Stanford and others have submitted many Africana headings. This raises questions as to whether changes that did not go to the list should be included; and whether a list of all new Africana headings is wanted.

The processing at LC is reasonably timely. For example, headings which I submitted on Nov. 16, 2002 showed up on the Weekly List no. 5 for Jan. 29, 2003. These appear on a tentative list about 10 days earlier; so there is approximately a 2-month delay. Most of the headings listed above were forwarded within the past month.

My work as funnel coordinator continues to be time-consuming. Often the research for a change is one heading turns up another 2-10 headings needing revision or creation. Some of my priorities (e.g., Mbundu/Ovimbundu; We/Gere/Krahn; Hamitic; Bantu-speaking/Indigenous peoples) have yet to be input. Since Nov. 2002, I have added 122 headings to my file of proposed or revised headings. Most are from Janet Stanley; others are from a personal file or Shoshana Seidman. Not all are being actively worked on.
