A total of 26 new and revised subject authorities have been submitted to the Library of Congress since the last update (Fall 2001).

The following new subject authorities were submitted.

Gula language [replacing Kara language, in part]

The following revised subject authorities were also submitted:
Bole language – revision of: Bolewa languages
Bolewa (African people)
Children, Lyela – revision of: Children, Lele
Edo language -- revision of: Bini language
Kono (Sierra Leonean people) -- revision of: Kono (African people)
Lele (Congolese (DR) people) -- revision of: Lele (African people)
Lyela (African people) -- revision of: Lela (Burkinabe people)
Lyele language-- revision of: Lele dialect
Urhobo (African people) -- revision of: Sobo (African people)

Five of these were submitted on March 23; the rest in late April or May 1. Of those submitted late in 2001, most appeared on the weekly list in February. At some stage in the process, LC changed our proposal for Sefwi (African people) to Sehwi (African people) to match Ethnologue heading for the language but not its note about the name of the people.

There are a few previously submitted headings (Jaba (Nigerian people), Manuscripts, Berber, & Short stories, Mauritian) which need to be pursued.

In my review of the Tentative Weekly Lists, I noticed problems with headings in 4 proposals about African languages or peoples that came from other sources. These problems were reported to our LC coordinator, Gracie M. Gilliam. At least some of my suggestions were accepted.

Since November 11, 2001, I have added 47 headings to my file of proposed new or revised headings. One was referred to the African-American Funnel; about 14 lacked literary warrant. Others are in the editorial backlog. Contributors: Janet Stanley, Loumona Petroff, Shoshana Seidman, Margaret Hughes, & myself.
