Citizens' Advisory
Committees
CDC learned early in its work that community participation contributes to
the success of our projects and increases the public’s confidence in the
results. Therefore, CDC helped form citizen advisory groups, which foster an
open and reciprocal communication process between potentially affected
community members and our researchers.
Currently, CDC and ATSDR have four advisory committees in place. These
committees play a major role in developing the site-specific public health
approaches that address community and worker health concerns related to past
and current exposures to radiation and related toxicants from these sites.
These advisory committees work with CDC every step of the way as we design
and conduct dosimetry, epidemiologic, and risk assessment research at these
facilities.
