HATS Ocean Projects
HATS Ocean Projects

HATS has been investigating the air-sea exchange of trace gases since 1987 by measuring atmospheric and dissolved amounts of nitrous oxide, organic halogens, and other climatically important gases in and over the oceans. Research cruises average about one per year and usually span a wide geographical range. The purpose of these cruises is to measure a latitudinal gradient or to cover a wide geographic area for all compounds in the marine atmosphere and to compare these data to those from CMDL observatories, to quantify the ocean's effect on the gases in the surface and deep waters, and to determine possible sources and/or sinks for the gases in the ocean.
