Use of Telephone Surveys to Collect Research Data
The November 2006 issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine contains a series of articles on the use of random-digit-dial (RDD) telephone surveys to collect research data on sensitive topics, such as experiences with violence and involvement in high risk behaviors. Six articles, authored by CDC and non-CDC scientists, cover topics including incentives for participation, interviewer training, nonresponse error, and alternatives to RDD surveys . These articles include recommendations for improving RDD survey research that are both practical and ethical. Citation: American Journal of Preventive Medicine, Volume 31, Issue 5, Pages 406-450.
