The legislative process as it relates to museums and libraries is the subject of the 14th meeting of the NMLSB, the policy advisory board for the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

At 12:30, the board and other interested parties will hear from a panel of congressional staff members about the legislative process and issues related to museums and libraries. Panelists will include:

• Adrienne Hallett, Professional Staff Member on the Senate Appropriations Committee (Majority);

• Lori Groves Rowley, Chief of Staff to Representative Ralph Regula (R-OH-16);

• Ilyse Schuman, Minority Staff Director and Chief Counsel on the Senate HELP Committee; and

• Elyse Wasch, Legislative Director to Senator Jack Reed (D-RI).

At 1:30, Judy Schneider, a Specialist on the Congress at the Congressional Research Service (CRS) and an adjunct scholar at the Brookings Institution Center for Public Policy Education, will give a presentation on the workings of Congress. Prior to joining CRS in 1979, Schneider served as research coordinator for the Senate Ethics Committee’s Korean investigation, and as a professional staff member of the Senate Select Committee to Study the Senate Committee System and the House Commission on Administrative Review. Schneider serves on the faculty of the Conference for New Members of Congress. She was selected as a Stennis Fellow during the 108th Congress, and received the Women in Government Relations Distinguished Member Award in 2004.
