Federal Disaster Aid to Connecticut Tops $4.2 Million 

Homeowners and renters receive $1.85 million in aid after April's Nor'easter

WINDSOR, Conn. -- As of July 19, more than $4.2 million dollars in aid for Connecticut individuals and businesses with storm damage is approved in the form of Individual Assistance and Public Assistance grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

"We are working tirelessly to get the state the aid it needs to recover from the damage done by the storm," said Federal Coordinating Officer Mike Parker. "We are pleased to be part of the recovery effort in Connecticut."

The $4.25 million in aid breaks out like this:

"I knew the impact of this storm on Connecticut residents and businesses was tremendous, and we truly appreciate FEMA's hard work as we continue on the road back," said Governor Rell.

Individual Assistance (IA) is available to affected homeowners and renters in Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New London, New Haven and Windham counties for eligible losses that occurred April 15 through April 27.

Individuals and businesses have until August 13 to register for assistance. Call 1 (800) 621-FEMA (3362) 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., 7 days a week. Those with speech- or hearing-impairment may call TTY 1-800-462-7585. You may also register online at www.fema.gov, 24 hours a day through August 13.

Public Assistance (PA) funding is available to local governments and certain non-profits in Fairfield and Litchfield counties for debris removal, emergency services and infrastructure rebuilding.

SBA makes available Low-Interest Disaster Loans to homeowners, renters and businesses and Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) to businesses.

The deadline to submit SBA disaster loan applications is August 13, 2007. SBA EIDL applications may be filed until March 13, 2008. Information on SBA Disaster Loans is available by calling the SBA Customer Service Center at 1-800-659-2955. Information also is available online at www.sba.gov.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
