WINDSOR, Conn. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster recovery center (DRC) serving Greenwich will close on Thursday, July 19, at 6 p.m. Recovery centers are temporary offices where individuals who experienced losses from the mid-April storms in Connecticut can talk face-to-face with disaster recovery specialists. Meanwhile, Small Business Administration Disaster Loan Outreach Centers are open to help individuals complete SBA loan applications.

FEMA operates DRCs in conjunction with the Connecticut Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Representatives from local, state and federal agencies staff the recovery centers as well as the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

DRCs will remain open in Norwalk and Danbury for residents who wish to talk in person with disaster recovery specialists. Small Business Administration Disaster Loan Outreach Centers are open in New Haven, Simsbury and Waterbury. The New Haven office will close Thursday, July 19 at 5 p.m.

"SBA has mailed loan applications to many people who registered for assistance," said Federal Coordinating Officer Mike Parker. "Completing the application is often an essential part of the process to qualify for additional aid from FEMA. Failing to submit the loan application will cause residents to lose their eligibility for additional aid."

Anyone with questions about the SBA application may talk face-to-face with specialists in the Loan Outreach Centers. Assistance is also available through the SBA's toll free help line.

Connecticut counties where individual assistance is available are Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London and Windham.

"Hundreds of Connecticut residents with storm-related losses have visited recovery centers in the affected counties," said Governor M. Jodi Rell. "We appreciate the face-to-face assistance for registration and help with the SBA loan process. I urge anyone with storm-related losses who has not yet registered to do so and everyone who has received an SBA application to complete and return it."

To register for FEMA aid, residents may visit a DRC; use the FEMA Web site, www.fema.gov; or call 1-800-621-FEMA (3621). Hearing- and speech-impaired residents may call TTY 1-800-462-7585. Operators are available at both numbers between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. seven days a week. The deadline to register for assistance is August 13.
