Speaker Biography: Major Jackson is originally from Philadelphia, Pa. He now teaches at the University of Vermont as assistant professor in the department of English. Jackson is recipient of fellowships and awards from the Bread Loaf Writer's Conference, Cave Canem and The MacDowell Colony, among others. He was a 2003-2004 Witter Bynner Fellow at the Library of Congress and a finalist for the National Book Critics' Award in 2002 for "Leaving Saturn" (Univ. of Georgia Press.) He was recently honored as one of 10 poets in America to win the 2003 Whitting Writer's Award.
