TITLE: Archive Ingest and Handling Test
SPEAKER: Keith Johnson
EVENT DATE: 04/05/2006
RUNNING TIME: 66 minutes
DESCRIPTION:
Keith Johnson, digital repository product manager at Stanford University, reported on Stanford's contribution to the Archive Ingest and Handling Test (AIHT), an initiative sponsored by the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program (www.digitalpreservation.gov) designed to test the feasibility of transferring digital archives from one institution to another. He was joined by Library program officer Martha Anderson, who provided an overview to the project.
The AIHT attempted to highlight general and institution-specific aspects of digital preservation by giving a moderately complex digital archive to a variety of participants, and then examining the results of the enhancement and subsequent transfer of the materials. In addition to the Library and Stanford, the partners in the AIHT project were Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University and Old Dominion University. The archive used in the test was a copy of George Mason University's collection of materials collected after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
