Camping is authorized in designated Campgrounds on Sam Rayburn Reservoir.  The US Army Corps of Engineers manages six developed Campgrounds (Ebenezer, Twin Dikes, Mill Creek, San Augustine, Rayburn and Hanks Creek Parks), four Access Points (boat ramp and parking at Monterey, Marion Ferry, Etoile and Ralph McAlister), and leases commercial concessions at the Sam Rayburn Marina and Resort, Powell Park Marina, Jackson Hill Marina, and Shirley Creek Marina.

The US Forest Service (Department of Agriculture) currently operates Caney Creek, Sandy Creek and Bayou Recreation Sites within the Angelina Forest, which borders Sam Rayburn Reservoir. 

Angelina County manages Cassells-Boykin Park.

Additional boat ramp access points, outgranted to Jasper, Sabine, Angelina, San Augustine and Nacogdoches Counties, are placed around the Reservoir.
