Hunting Zones: It is the hunter’s responsibility to observe property lines and be aware of the boundaries of the hunting area he or she uses. In addition, a 600 foot wide buffer strip beginning at the government property line and extending toward the lake is closed to hunting to ensure the safety of adjacent property owners. In addition, hunting is not permitted within 600 feet of homes, parks (including trails) and farm/ranch yards.

Legal Game: Dove, quail, squirrel, rabbits, waterfowl, turkey, feral hogs (archery only). Deer (archery only) are permitted at Grapevine Lake.

Bag Limits: Bag limits are the same as those listed in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Hunting Guide.

Open Seasons: Hunting on project lands is permitted from September 1-August 31 to include spring turkey season.; Feral hogs may be hunted year round. Legal game listed above may be hunted during the open seasons shown in the current Texas Parks and Wildlife Hunting Guide in the County Listings section and supplemental brochures. All project hunting lands are in Denton County. The 2008-2009 hunting season will open September 1, 2008 and close on August 31, 2009 to allow archery hunting for turkeys during the Denton County spring hunting season for gobblers and year-round hunting for feral hogs (non-game animals).

Legal Hunting Weapons and Methods: Hunting is restricted to the use of shotguns with shot no larger than #4, and archery. Non-toxic shot is required when hunting waterfowl. Rifles and pistols are prohibited. Dogs may be used when hunting small game, upland game birds, and waterfowl. Trapping is prohibited. Portable hunting stands may be used so long as no tree damage occurs (including screws) and they are not abandoned, stored or left on government land more than 24 hours.

Hunting Licenses, Permits, and Fees: All hunters must have completed a state approved hunter education course prior to being issued a Corps of Engineers hunting permit. (Please note, this is different from the policy in the Guidelines you are handed when acquiring your permit). You must bring the orignial course certificate, no copies are accepted.  (Contact the state for a new certificate if yours is lost.)  There is no charge for the Corps permit.  Permits are valid for both Lewisville and Grapevine and may be picked up at either office. 

**Current state hunting license is required before Corps Permit will be issued.

Hunters must have in their possession a valid state hunting license and a Corps of Engineers hunting permit while hunting on project lands. Hunters must display a Corps of Engineers vehicle permit on the dashboard.

Permits for the 2008-2009 hunting season must be obtained in person

Hunter Responsibility: All hunters must obey hunting regulations issued by County, State, and Federal Governments and abide by the Fort Worth District hunting policy. All persons hunting on Corps of Engineers lands or waters will be held liable for any conduct or action which endangers the safety of other project visitors or adjacent landowners and for damage to property on project lands and adjoining private property.   One visitor is permitted with the permit holder so long as the visitor also has proof of a state approved hunter education course.
