Equestrian Trails at Grapevine Lake

Grapevine Lake offers a variety of trails for the equestrian. Please note that the Corps of Engineers nor any local cities/leasees rent horses. You must bring your own to enjoy the trails. Equestrian trails are closed to cyclists but are open to hikers.

Rocky Point Trail

Length: Approximately 3 miles.

Users: Hikers and equestrian.

Description: The Rocky Point Nature Trail winds around Rocky Point Park and Redbud Point, providing beautiful views of the lake from the bluffs and ideal picnicking along the gently sloping lakeshore. The only established trailhead for this trail is along High Road between Stallion Circle and Sunnyview Lane. There are no facilities on the trail

Driving Directions: Heading west on FM 1171, turn left (south) on High Road. The trailhead is approximately half a mile down High Road on the left.

CrossTimbers Horse Trail

Length: Approximately 5 miles.

Users: Hikers and equestrian.

Description: This trail traverses the prairies at the lake's northwest corner. From early spring through late summer, wildflowers abound, while during the fall, migrating birds and waterfowl can be seen on the upper end of the lake. Trailer parking is available only at Dunham Road, with walk-in access possible from High Road. There are no facilities on the trail.

Driving Directions: To Dunham Road- the entrance to Dunham Road is located at the southeast corner of the intersection of FM 1171 and HWY 377 in Flower Mound. The trailhead is located at the end of the road.

Walnut Grove Trail

Length: Short distances and up to 10 miles by combining loops.

Users: Hikers and equestrians.

Description: Located on the southwest portion of the lake, this trail is divided into an upper woodland trail and lower shoreline trail. In addition to Corps access points, the City of Southlake has a trail access at Harbor Court, off Burney Lane.

Driving Directions:
To White Chapel Road Trailhead: From Hwy 114 take the White Chapel exit. Head north on White Chapel Road to the end. There is limited parking for trailers.

To Bob Jones Road Trailhead: From Hwy 114 take the White Chapel exit. Head north on White Chapel Road and turn right on bob Jones Road (east) to the end. There is very limited parking for horse trailers.

To T.W. King Road Trailhead: From Hwy 114 take the White Chapel Blvd. exit. Head north on White Chapel Road and turn left on Bob Jones Road (west) onto T.W. King Road and follow to end. No horse trailer parking available.
