Summary: This resource book serves as a guide for developing a Nonprofit Board which contracts for child care services. Specific steps and procedures are outlined and sample documents are provided to assist agencies starting Boards and opening centers. This resource is also designed to assist existing Boards by providing information to develop effective policies for the long term viability of their child care center and ensure growth and success of the Board itself. The chapters of this book include: (1) Introduction; (2) Start Up Guidance and Board Composition; (3) Articles of Incorporation; (4) Bylaws; (5) Application for Tax-Exempt Status; (6) Roles and Responsibilities; (7) Cost, Quality, and Affordability; (8) Selecting the Child Care Provider; (9) Marketing the Center; and (10) Using Existing Resources. Articles of Incorporation, a model contract between a board of directors for the child development center and the provider, a fundraising guide, and a tuition assistance guide are included in the appendices.
