Building a Library Collection on Visual and Physical Disabilities: Basic Materials and Resources Date March 1999 No. 99-01 Introduction The materials included in this reference circular are recommended as basic resources for providing current information on general aspects of visual impairments and physical disabilities. For information on a specific eye disease or physical disability, please contact national organizations listed in publications in this circular. The selections, based on the holdings of the Reference Section, National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), were chosen for their currency and authoritativeness. With the exception of a few classics in the field, most titles are in print and were published since 1990. Titles in the NLS collection in braille or recorded format include the book number with the citation. They may be borrowed by individuals with a visual or physical disability through a cooperating network library. Prices are subject to change and are shown for comparative purposes. Full publishers' addresses are included when they are not readily available through a library or bookstore. The Reference Section publishes Added Entries, a quarterly selected list of current acquisitions for its collection of materials on disabilities. Those wishing to receive this publication on a regular basis should contact the Reference Section, National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, Library of Congress, Washington, DC 20542, to be placed on the mailing list.
