Mission and Functions
Mission
The Office of Enforcement promotes overall improvement in the Department's
nuclear safety, worker safety and health, and security programs through management
and implementation of the DOE statutorily required enforcement programs.
Functions
- Provides management and direction to the Department's congressionally mandated nuclear safety, worker safety and health, and security enforcement programs.
- Develops the Department's enforcement policies and procedures required to implement the various enforcement programs including the administering of civil penalties.
- Works closely with DOE Field and Program elements in implementing key enforcement functions.
- Develops and maintains the Noncompliance Tracking System (NTS) database used by contractors to report to DOE for the tracking of site nuclear and worker safety noncompliance and violations.
- Implements the Docketing Clerk functions including the recording and maintenance of information concerning enforcement actions and a public reading room with associated Web site.
