A Guide for Effective Governance Considerations and Lessons Learned for Afterschool Networks (PDF)

Summary: This report provides emerging networks with guidance and examples useful in the process of setting up a governance and organizational structure for making decisions about the role of after-school services in States and communities. An effective governance structure is essential to ensuring that a network is well managed, fosters leadership, and supports progress toward the stated goals. The report focuses on six key domains: (1) Vision, (2) Structure and Leadership, (3) Broad Representation and Participation, (4) Decision-Making and Accountability, (5) Communication, and (6) Measuring Results. The appendices offer models of governance structures and related tools and resources.
