Senior Enlisted Leadership Course

“Respecting the Past, Leading the Future”

Welcome to the Senior Enlisted Leadership Course, the highest level of Coast Guard enlisted professional military education located at the Leadership Development Center (LDC) in New London, Connecticut. The LDC has an outstanding staff and faculty dedicated to the mission of preparing leaders at every level to fulfill their role within the Coast Guard.

The mission of this 80-hour, in-residence course is to create a highly motivated, educated and trained senior enlisted cadre of Master Chief or future Master Chief Petty Officers for assignment to any position including special assignments such as CMC or RFMC.  The course develops the higher-level management skills required of those critical positions by addressing human resource and organizational policies, professional communications, protocol, and the critical relationship between workforce and command. The course is developed within the Coast Guard’s Leadership Framework and the 28 leadership competencies.

The curriculum explores in depth the role of the Master Chief Petty Officer within the organization by focusing on the four leadership competency categories of Leading Self, Leading Others, Leading Performance and Change and Leading the Coast Guard. As explained in the course syllabus, there are opportunities to engage senior leaders in frank discussions regarding successful senior executive leadership and organizational challenges.  Part of the curriculum is dedicated to a written and verbal communications program to further develop individual communication skills.

There are pre-assignments which are required to be completed prior to arrival and regular evening work assignments.  Further information is provided in the application instructionssyllabus of course material and schedule.

The School Chief, Command Master Chief Francis F. Jennings, may be contacted at (860) 701-6471 or by email at Francis.F.Jennings@uscg.mil.

For a list of convening dates, go to the Training Quota Management Center (TQC) Web site.
