Directorate of Chemical Demilitarization

Welcome to the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville Directorate of Chemical Demilitarization home page.  The U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center  ( USAESCH), located in Huntsville, Alabama, is responsible by agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Headquarters, Washington, DC, as the Life Cycle Project Manager for the equipment and facility design, facility construction, equipment acquisition, and equipment installation for chemical demilitarization facilities. In this role the Huntsville Center provides support to the Chemical Materials Agency (CMA) and the Program Manager for Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives.  The CMA is responsible for the Chemical Stockpile Disposal Program that utilizes the baseline incineration technology developed and proven at the Johnston Atoll Chemical Agent Disposal System (JACADS).  The CMA is also responsible for the Alternative Technologies and Approaches Program (PMATA), which utilizes neutralization technologies, and the Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) program  assisting Russia Federation in the Russian Chemical Weapons Destruction Program.  The U. S. Army Field Support Command (FSC), a subordinate command of the Army Material Command (AMC)  is the contracting agency for the program for all chemical demilitarization programs except the CTR program.  Contracting support for the CTR program is provided by the USAESCH.  

The Directorate also provides project planning, acquisition, design, engineering support, and construction management support to the Program Manager for Assembled Chemical Weapons Assessment. (now the Program Manager for Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives (PM ACWA).
