Help Finding and Comparing Nursing Homes

Begin your search for nursing homes by choosing the 'Find and Compare Nursing Homes' button on the Nursing Home Compare Home page.

Step 1: Enter Your Search Criteria: First, choose a search option. Search by Geography, Distance from Location, or by Nursing Home Name.

  • For Geography searches: You must either select the State or County option. By choosing the State option, you will search the entire state. By choosing the County option, you will search a particular county in Step 1.
  • For Distance from Location searches: You must enter the name of the City and select a State OR enter a ZIP code. Then you choose the distance in Step 1.
  • For Name searches: Enter the Nursing Home name or at least the first two letters and select the State that you wish to search.

When your selection has been made, a search results page “Step 2: Choose Nursing Home to Compare” will be displayed.

Please Note: Not all Nursing Homes will have information reported or available.

Step 2: Choose Nursing Homes to Compare: This page displays your search results in a table that includes a list of nursing homes, their phone numbers, and addresses. You will see the five star quality ratings, including overall ratings, health inspections ratings, staffing ratings, and quality measures ratings. You will also see information about program participation, number of certified beds, and type of ownership.

Select the nursing homes you would like to compare (maximum 3). Make your selection from the table or access the Google maps by clicking the ‘View Nursing Home Locations on a Map’ link.

Once you have made your selections, click the ‘Compare’ button to proceed.

Step 3: Compare Nursing Homes: This page gives you the option of viewing additional information on the nursing homes you’ve selected. You can view information about health inspections, staffing, quality measures, and fire inspections by clicking on the “Show Information” button next to each category. This information is usually collapsed unless you click on the “Show Information” button.
