New Disaster Recovery Centers Open To Assist Storm Survivors

Baton Rouge, LA -- Federal and state officials said that Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) are now open in Acadia, Lafayette and Vermilion parishes to assist residents with damage and losses caused by from Tropical Storm Isidore and Hurricane Lili. The additional centers bring the total to nine fixed-site recovery centers augmented by two mobile DRCs visiting outlying areas.

Disaster officials strongly suggest applicants avoid delays by first calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) before visiting a DRC. Individuals with hearing or speech impairments who use special keyboard equipment (TTY) should register at 800-462-7585 before visiting the centers. All facilities are handicapped accessible.

All DRCs will be open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., seven days a week until further notice.

Every DRC is staffed with state and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) specialists who will provide information on disaster programs including:

"The DRCs will remain open as long as necessary to help the people of Louisiana recover from this disaster," said Art Jones, state coordinating officer.

Declared Parishes: Individual Assistance (families and individuals): Acadia, Ascension, Assumption, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Evangeline, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson Davis, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, and Vermillion.
