Baton Rouge, LA -- Disaster assistance registration and Helpline hours for the toll-free number, 800-621-FEMA, change today to 8 a.m.-6 p.m. The line will continue to be open seven days a week.

Persons with hearing or speech impairments should call another toll-free number, (TTY/TDD) 800-462-7585.

Disaster recovery officials of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Louisiana Office of Emergency Preparedness (LOEP) said the change was brought about because of a substantial drop in the number of daily calls.

The 800 numbers are used for people impacted by Tropical Storm Isidore or Hurricane Lili to register for federal-state assistance, or by others who want to learn the status of their applications or about other available disaster programs.
