  • Complete a strategic plan to provide guideposts to the District toward 2010.
  • Have a safe year.
At face value, these New Year’s resolutions seem pretty simple, but everyone in the District is involved in keeping them, and I’m counting on you to help!

CLOCK TOWER ANNEX CATCHES FIRE

During an ordinary Tuesday evening when most employees were home with their families, the District's headquarter's annex caught fire.

On Nov. 27, the Rock Island Arsenal Fire Department received a flow-alarm signal from the Clock Tower Annex sprinkler system.  Approximately one minute later, the RIA FD received a pull-station alarm from the Clock Tower Annex.  After responding to the alert, the RIA FD discovered a fire in the northwest corner of the annex's mechanical room.  The firemen determined that it was an electrical fire and extinguished the blaze.

DISTRICT CONTINUES TO BEEF-UP SECURITY

The terrorist attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center on Sept. 11 continue to send ripples throughout the country including the way the Corps of Engineers conducts its daily business.

Many people know the Corps is operating under a state of heightened security, but current security measures are under scrutiny … not by the public, but by the Corps.

LOCK & DAM 12 GETS FACELIFT

On Dec. 17, contractors and Corps' employees started the final phase of the rehabilitation on the 65-year-old Lock and Dam 12 as a part of the Corps' $42 million rehabilitation project.

AREA AMERICAN BALD EAGLE WATCH 2002 SCHEDULE

The Rock Island District is involved with the Bald Eagle population in the Midwest in a variety of ways. 

The locks and dam systems on the Upper Mississippi River provide ideal feeding areas during the winter months for Bald Eagles. Below is a schedule of area Bald Eagle watching events.
