Photo: Associate Director Dr. King Li for Imaging SciencesThe Clinical Center appointed Dr. King Li as Associate Director for Imaging Sciences. Before joining NIH this past year, Dr. Li served as a tenured associate professor at Stanford University Medical Center’s department of Radiology. He achieved tenure in 1997 after joining Stanford in 1991.

Dr. Li’s diverse research interests include the development of novel site and disease-specific drug delivery systems. He holds multiple patents on novel drug delivery systems and on combining imaging with genomics and proteomics for developing new molecular targets and personalizing treatments. He has been a principal and co-investigator on numerous grants funded through institutional, industrial and federal sources.

He was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to Canada in 1974. He earned his M.D. in 1981 from the University of Toronto, Canada where he also did a residency in radiology and served as chief resident. Subsequently, Dr. Li completed an MRI fellowship at the University of Michigan and in 1987, became the co-director of MRI at the University of Florida. In 1990 he was director of body MRI at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Barrows Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona and from 1991 to 1997 was at Stanford University.

Dr. Li is a prolific writer and has published more than 65 scientific articles, five book chapters and 15 review articles. He is also a reviewer of scientific manuscripts for five journals and sits on the editorial board of a new journal on molecular imaging.
