AUGUST 2008

19 August

This summer was great for getting to know different people in my class that I normally haven’t hung out with. Right before I left on leave,  I had the opportunity to go down to waterfront and learn how to wind surf with the waterfront cadre. I think the waterfront cadre had a pretty good deal getting to sail, ride around on rigid hull inflatables (RHIs), and cook out every day, but I am still glad I did AIM cadre.

My two weeks at home went by fast, but returning to the Academy this time was different than the rest. I looked forward to seeing my classmates and getting back into the regimented lifestyle the school year brings. My time in Minnesota was well spent out on the lake wakeboarding, riding around in the boat, and tanning. Glacier National Park (in Montana) was absolutely gorgeous. I did a lot of hiking out there and I almost got mauled by a bear! No… I’m just kidding, but I did have a bear cub walk about 10 feet away from me in one campground, it was getting chased by two park rangers with tranquilizers. My sister and I also did a bit of touristy cliff jumping right beneath a waterfall. This was quite a rush, check out my pictures! It was great to go out West for a change, see new surroundings and get in touch with nature. In returning to Minnesota after my camping trip, I went to biking, rollerblading, and to a Twins game (which we won in the 9th inning…)! Well, I’m off to class…

Sincerely,

2/c Caitlin Cunningham
