The Pamir peoples live in one of the highest mountain ranges in the world, the western Pamir Mountains in the Mountain-Badakhshan District of Tajikistan. Western Iranian Farsi of India and the Dari language of Afghanistan are lingua francas. Grain and legume agriculture and animal husbandry are the primary economic activities.
