Mississippi Delta Headwaters Project

The project area consists of 16 watersheds
comprising 2,934 square miles within the eastern (hill) section of the
Yazoo River Basin. The watersheds range in size from less than
1 square mile (Town Creek, Charleston) to over 600 square miles (Coldwater
River). The DEC addresses problems associated with watershed
erosion, sedimentation, flooding, and environmental degradation. Remaining
work includes bank stabilization, several hundred grade control
structures, floodwater-retarding structures, and channel modifications.
