Author Holly Black and artist Tony DiTerlizzi talk about their work at the 2004 National Book Festival.
Speaker Biography: Holly Black's first novel, a suburban fantasy entitled Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale," received starred reviews in Publisher's Weekly and Kirkus Reviews. A finalist for the Mythopoeic Award, "Tithe" was listed on the ALA's Best Books for Young Adults and the New York Public Library's "Best 2002 Books for the Teenage." Black then collaborated with artist and writer Tony DiTerlizzi on the New York Times bestselling "The Spiderwick Chronicles." Also receiving starred reviews in Publisher's Weekly and Kirkus Reviews, "The Spiderwick Chronicles" have been translated into 27 languages worldwide. Black was born in New Jersey and attended the College of New Jersey and Rutgers University. Before writing became a full-time occupation, she was a production editor for medical journals and a medical market researcher. She is an avid collector of the folklore and fairy tale volumes that inform her work.
