Action Item?: Commentary on Framework for National Quality Report

Background:  At the November 19-20 meeting, the Committee approved a letter commenting on the AHRQ Quality Framework, verbally presented by Ms. Coltin (Retired Member and Former Chair, Quality Workgroup) for final approval by Ex. Subcommittee.

Discussion Item: Support for NCHS Surveys, specifically NHIS

Background: Also at the November meeting, the Committee approved a letter of support for NCHS surveys, and expressed concern about possible budget cuts to NHIS survey.   The letter is being updated for final approval by the Ex. Subcommittee.

NCVHS Organizational Issues–

Status of Workgroup for 21st Century Health Statistics

Issue:  Report has been finalized and is in production.    Will Workgroup be re-constituted or reconfigured with new membership to address 21stCentury health statistics issues? 

Status of Workgroup on Quality

Issue:  The Quality Workgroup has compiled issues raised from several years of hearings for review;  however, a report with recommendations has not yet been developed.  Federal and contracted staff have outlined a possible timetable to work on a report but need direction from NCVHS membership on proceeding, including development of NCVHS recommendations.

Subcommittee and Workgroup Composition

Selection of Subc/Workgroup assignments by new members will be reviewed.

Incorporating Population Issues Throughout Committee Considerations

Background: The Executive Subc is committed to developing ways to incorporate population issues throughout the Committee’s projects and activities, and is developing strategies to accomplish this.

Possible Action Items at February Meeting:

  • Subc on Populations

Background: The Subc plans to compile issues raised in hearings conducted throughout 2002 in individual reports and letters,  the first of which may be available this meeting.

  • NCVHS Report 2000-2002

Background: Report will recount highlights, activities, and accomplishments of the Committee, and follows the previous reports, 1996-98, and 50th anniversary Symposium report, whose history encompassed 1949- 1999.   The Executive Subcommittee reviewed the issues and themes of the Report at the July Retreat and will be sent a draft of the report shortly.
