Natural Resource Management

The Corps of Engineers is ultimately responsible for the long term natural resource management of the Hillsdale Lake property. The Corps works with local agencies to encourage the development of sound land management practices that will prolong the life of the lake. In 1989, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks leased 12,880 acres of land and water at Hillsdale. With this lease, the KDW&P’s now manages the natural resources at Hillsdale.

Land management practices at Hillsdale include: reestablishment of native grasslands, tree planting, foodplot plantings, shoreline stabilization, waterway and terrace construction, wetland development and prescribed burns.
