Public Information Site for the
Natomas Levee Investigations

The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers has a responsibility to rigorously evaluate public safety risks and inform communities so citizens can take action to reduce flood risk and protect life and property. We are constantly looking for ways to reduce the risk.

Communities protected by levees are always at risk. If you live behind levees, you should have flood insurance.

No matter how high or strong you build a levee, there is always some risk that a flood will be greater than the levee system was designed to handle. It only takes one weak link to put an entire community at risk.

Over the past 10 years, important repairs and improvements have been made to the Natomas levees. The risk has been reduced, but more must be done. You can review the history and future of the collective efforts to reduce the Natomas flood risk on this site.

The Corps is holding ALL levees, not only Natomas' levees, to rigorous standards based on public safety and the risk of flooding.  Given its high risk factor and its high population and economic presence, the Natomas area deserves the care, concern, attention and priority it is receiving.

This web site has been developed especially for the citizens of the Natomas and Sacramento area to understand our concerns and our decision.  We encourage you to ask questions, ask for information, or make suggestions that could improve this web site's value to you, your interests, and your families.

The Corps and its local and state flood control partners are committed to your safety, especially the 70,000 citizens who call the Natomas area home and their place of business.

Stay in touch with us as we move forward to strengthen your flood control system and your great community.

Please share this web site and web address (http://www.spk.usace.army.mil/natomas) with anyone you feel has a vested interest in this issue.

Let us hear from you!
