Men Against Breast Cancer

Men Against Breast Cancer

Men Against Breast Cancer (MABC) is the first non-profit designed to educate and empower men to be effective caregivers when breast cancer strikes a female loved one. MABC targets and mobilizes men to be active participants in the fight to eradicate breast cancer.

MABC is the first national non-profit organization to target and mobilize men in the fight against breast cancer. MABC recognizes that breast cancer affects the entire family and emphasizes the important role of the husband or partner in caring for the breast cancer patient. MABC works with breast cancer patients and their husbands and partners and with doctors and other medical staff to educate them on the important role they play in the woman's treatment and recovery. Through its program Survival Skills for Men, MABC educates men to be effective support partners and provides services to help them cope with the impact of a loved one's breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. MABC also funds a national program providing access to early detection and treatment of breast cancer for low-income, underserved, and uninsured women, and awards grants to other breast cancer organizations and research projects.

Partnership Activities

CDC has funded MABC for a five-year period to support MABC's Partners in Survival Program. Through collaborations with other groups, this program will target minority women and their partners: African Americans, American Indians, and Hispanics. By conducting workshops, developing and producing culturally sensitive material, and translating material into Spanish, MABC's Partners in Survival program will teach skills to male partners of cancer survivors that will improve men's ability to care for and support their partners.
